Whats up fellow enthusiasts,
My buddy is about to come back from Korea and wants to get the most budget performance out of it before he is stationed in Alaska and takes his car with him.
I dont need help on what mods would help his 04 GT, but rather what mods would work with the Alaskan weather and emmision laws.

For example: I was thinking headers, duals, 3.73's and a 100 shot...but dont know if he needs cats for emmision tests, stainless steel exhaust cause of road salt, if 3.73's would hurt traction too much in snow, if extreme cold affects nitrous....

If anyone here is from a colder place than Texas, we would greatly appreciate any input.

I had my '88 in Wisconsin with me.. and to be honest, I just garaged it during the winters.. I wouldn't even consider bringing my '04 up there. If he's going to be spraying up there, especially with all that cold/dense air, make sure he gets a good tune first.

Yeah, they have some retarded emision laws. Is he going to Eileson or Elmendorf? He can check on the base website and there are links provided to read all about their retarded emissions laws.

Thanks, its his brand new pride and joy....his only transportation. The way you talk, I dont know if he'll even keep it long when he sees what its like up there. Maybe just an exhaust in case it doesnt work out or if he needs to buy a beater for daily driving.
Thanks

i drove mine all winter (Minnesota winters.......roads are covered in pure ice for about 4 months) and didnt have a single fender bender. This was on bald tires and no traction control/abs and my first winter ever driving. So if i can manage that he should be able to handle the Alaskan climate perfectly fine because they have more mild winters than us.

EDIT: but we dont have emissions tests so i dont know about what he could or couldnt do emissions-wise.

First things first learn a little about Alaska. What's the weather swing like there? Anchorage (on coast) goes from an average low of 7 to and average high of 65. Fairbanks (inland) goes from an average of -19 to 73. Where will he be stationed? He should see if the Mustang Club of America has a chapter in Alaska. If so they might have members who may be able to offer some practical first hand advice.
