I agree with the others. What's the use in having them not to have them in the car for the style and function? You can always recover them again if you mess them up, right?

I put a towel down on the bottom part of the seat to keep from wearing out the upholstery, looks kinda corny but it works, also an old T shirt over the back, if you want to show them off just pull the T shirt off and toss the towel in the back.

Had to go back 5 pages. Almost a month since I posted here.

Anyway, haven’t touched the car since before Xmas. Wife and kids are out of town, so I decided to do something.

I’ll pull the ole flowmaster catback off tomorrow. Then we can get started on installing the Borlas.

I’ll clean the axle up a bit and possible refresh a few things here. It’s just dirty.

I will be removing the SN95 brackets to install offset caliper brackets and fox lenght 5-lug axles so I can run my new wheels. I figure I can pick up a 1/2” spacer from MM to run these wheels for now and still have it look ok.

I cannot decide if I want to swap the 3.73s out for 3.27s now, and rebuilt the t-lok. The t-lok has never been touched and is original, and it still spins both wheels. I am not a fan of the short 1st with the 3.73s at all. Since I won’t be swapping trans anytime soon, I figure this might make my gears a bit longer for me. I’ve never liked the 3.73s with the 5-spd at all.

Now everybody here knows (that pays attention to you) knows that that rear end is not going back in the car looking like that.
We expect a full clean up and paint job before re-install! Just sayin! Lol

I feel you man. I’ve been contemplating 3.45’s or 3.55’s or a T-56 Magnum…I bet the gears win.

You need to rework the trac-lok at a minimum.

I was encouraged to put 3.73s in my ‘86, but I decided to go with 3.55s. If I were to do it today, I’d go 3.27s.

So far I love my 3:73 with my 5 spd….. But I do very little highway.

I would do the math (which i know you are capable of).
When my car made less power (especially down low) and i ran a t5z with a 2.95 and 3.73's, i did not much care for it. Sucked some of the fun out of driving and i felt like i had to work the car harder to get the same excitement.
Then i went to a tko with a 2.87 and made the problem slightly worse.

If a 3.27 with a 3.35 feels anything like 3.73's with a 2.87 or 2.95, i don't think i would make the change.
It could very well too drastic.

I'd also consider doing the internal rebuild on the car, it's easier to work on and get the torque correct.
