What pistons did you get? What was the final price?

Keith Black Forged pistons. Final price with shipping was just about right at 1,500. 1 yr warranty, rated up to 450 hp. I did some research on M & R engines that builds it and they are very reputable. They've done several motors for Boyd Coddington and have been featured in many magazine articles.

yes i would also be going with more then you stated. AFR 185's and a systemax II intake aswell as 70mm T/B 30 lbs injectors and i would be looking at those new XFI cams from comp. They were designed specifically for the stroked 302's.

if you put 302 puts in/on, you will get 302 power.

Get a set of 180+cc heads, a descent cam (if you have to go OTS the XE274HR's seem to make power), a 70mm throttle body and an 80mm MAF. prob 30-36lbers depending on fuel pressure.

I will be using a set of 180cc Protoplines heads, i suggest something like those if you want a good deal (same as RHS, and flow better than advertised out of th box). Has anyone seen the picture of RHS heads on their website? in most cases you can clearly see the Pro Topline logo and smoking wheel in the corner. amazing...

LS1 will get good gas mileage with better engine management and most important a 6spd with double overdrive. .50 in 6th which with a 3.42 rear and stock height tires will put your rpm's around 1600 and 65-70 mph.

In my experience, about 20 years worth, keep the rpm below 2k on a V8 and the mileage raises dramatically.

I have hit 31mpg in my 99 Z28 on the highway at 70-75 mph and always average low 20's with mixed driving.

There's 2 votes for the XE274 cam...I'll definitely be looking into it along with the new XFI line of cams. I've pretty much decided on AFR 185's. 30lb injectors seem to be in order as well as a 70mm TB and big MAF.

Thanks for the input gents, I have a much clearer picture now.

Put it this way, I get better mileage with the Stang than my brand new 2006 Ford F-150.

Whoah! What intake are you using? What freeway mileage do you get with that combo?

Edit: I'm a moron, just saw the Systemax II intake...

you will need new springs either way with those cams, but for the XFI stroker cams, you will need some serious spring pressures to keep from valve float.

oh and if your going to spend nearly 300 on a cam, you might as well go custom, more power and driveability for prob 50 bucks more.

I completely agree, that's why I'm doing quality heads and roller rockers to start with. I'll upgrade the intake, TB, injectors, MAF, and stuff like that as money permits, but I won't go with any cheap-o parts.

I got the 5.0 and tranny pulled yesterday... 331 short block due to arrive Dec 1

Put on a set of A.F.R. 185's, Comp XE-274 or XE- 282 H.R., Systemmax intake, 75 TB, 30LB Injectors and a 75-80 Mass Air Meter. Should pull over 400 h.p. to the rear tire easily. With all the parts you originally listed maybe 310 at the wheels and that would be stretching it.

I've kinda had that in the back of my head...that's why I'm going with 9:1 compression. I've heard a few bad experiences with turbo kits off of ebay...are there certain preferred vendors or vendors I should avoid?
