Not familiar w/these rigs (just did the tranny leak & placed back in 'storage')
and their mods. Learnin it all right here. Worked on the C4 on others (older) so
transmis diagnosis/fix to LTD was clear, easy.

Nothing, they where repackage depo lights.... But you can't buy those corner lamps any more with out the orange reflectors.... Depo has been hard to buy new since they cracked down on aftermarket "Dot" lights a few years back, alot less companies reselling them these days and they go out of stock pretty quickly for the legal ones.. Also you don't see the ricer clear lights that used to flood fleabay sold anymore.

Yeah. Nothing fancy about them other than you can't find the lights without the amber in the corners anymore. I've been sitting on them for the last 10 years and figure it's time to let them go.

Final 6 hours and I have a bunch of watchers. I'm already satisfied with $100 for them so anything more is a bonus.

I found these wheels and tires off Craiglist for $50... I " think " the person I bought them from said they came off of an 01...... Worst scenario is they give me some wheels and tires to bolt to the car with its new 5 lug. LIke new condition....
Here is a pic with the 4 lug pony wheels still on the rear.....
I guess I have a set of pony wheels and the original TRX wheels to get rid of... Won't EVER be needing them again......
Next will be removing the 7.5 rear and installing my new 9 inch.....

Not a bad idea using a dremel.. You could make that flat spot on one side that these lines and the newer brackets have... I was going to drill them out and rely on the " C " clip spacers.... thanks
The newer brackets do not fit correctly on the older cars.....

the 8 inch takes upto 330 HP is the kind of "heavy" I meant,
sorry. Actual weight? I'd say av 9=205, av 8=160 lbs.

It just seems massive (I have in my 'truck', 1st gen bronk).

8" vs 9" Ford rear end weight

With all else being equal( length, brake style, etc.) Does anybody know the difference in weight between and OEM 8" and the 9" Ford rear ends?

Thanks for clarifying what you meant.
In Limp’s case, for free, near invincibility was worth the 25 pounds.

The 8.8” can take more power than that, especially with bigger axle shafts. The 7.5” is supposed to be a potential grenade. On a street car with some 1/4 mile test and tune days, without slicks and with a traction lock diff, the tires or the transmission broke loose before I was able to hurt a 7.5”.

yup, 7.5 @ its limit. 8 inch seems fine. Free - beddah yet.

Back in the 80's I had a brand new 85 TC turbocoupe that I put the Motorsports IC on and an adjustable boost knob. I'd run 20psi on the street and the car would run away from just about anything else on the road (remember, this was 1985 when Trans Ams and Corvettes were struggling to get 7 second 0-60 times) I abused that car from day 1.. always burning the tires and running through the gears hard. I never had an issue with the rear end in 90K of ownership.. However, The car also did not hook up off the line with the factory Gatorbacks or whatever the aftermarket replacements I used back then was.. the car would just spin the tires like crazy and I think that's why the rear lasted so long.

A few years later I bought used TC and took it to the track to see what it's baseline was before starting mods.. I borrowed a set of drag radials and on my very first launch I popped the rear-end.. very disappointing, but lesson learned..." I'd say: all ways go w/what U need, not over - but am more interested in SCCA style than drag or pure power...

I did not want to put any money into the 7.5" rear end or the SROD 4 speed that were in the car....... So I needed a new rear...
Since I was going to buy a rear, I chose to buy a NEW bolt in 9 " as I am "old school" and know how to work on them, while 8.8" would be a learning experience....I did not want a used 8.8...... That is the short version.
Do I need the 9" for my " grocery getter" ....LOL... probably not......
Its a rebuilt explorer engine with 030 forged pistons, a TF stage one cam ( Hope that cam is not more than I need ) " P " heads and a 500 CFM 4 barrel..
Based on my age and health this will probably be my last " project" so I did some unnecessary upgrades, like the 9" and the TKX just because I could....
If you think a 9" is big, you would have hated the Dana 9 3/4" in my old dodge....... Thats a monster.....

Once second gear went in my SROD, (and it was popping out of gear once in a while before I ever abused it,) it was never the same. I quick shifted and babied it after it was good enough.

I pulled the top off my SROD and it looks perfect inside.... I am sure I could have kept my 83 as it was and either rebuilt the 302 in it or get another engine and had a fun driver... As I said above, this is probably my last project and since I am spending my kids inheritance, I am doing it how I want to..

Good choice. The T-5 in a Mustang was available from the SVO catalog at a stupid price when I had the SROD “fixed”.

Had a custom 9" housing built for my 77 Chevy Stepside years ago..... After screwing around trying to find parts for the original Chevy rear end I decided this is the way to do it..... One of the best things I did to my " boat puller"......
As I said I am familiar with my way around 9 inch rear ends......
