MY 460 WAS STOLEN TODAY BY MY BEST FRIEND

Story:

I went 4 wheelin with my friend a month ago and rolled his atv down a hill, he says dude dont worry about it **** happens. Now he thinks i owe him $800 for repairs. I got pissed off and hung up on him tonight cause i went to go out to eat and i went to the shop where i stored the motor and saw that my motor was missing, i asked the 2 owners if scott(the 17 year old theif) stole it, they said yup. I cant understand why the hell they would let him take it, they are accomplises in this frikin mess. i was on my way to the shop and saw one guy's truck and scott's jeep behind it and wondered where they were going, little did i know they had the motor in that truck and were stealing it. I told them if i dont get my motor back by tomarrow night with all the parts, i am pressing charges. According to him the reason he stole it was that he was going to use it as collateral to make me pay him the $800

SOME PEOPLE ARE SO ****ING STUPID, and let bull**** like this get in the way of friendships. I am so frikin pissed off right now. I am going to sue the **** outta atleast 4 people if that motor isnt back tomarrow. I guess they dont under stand taking something without permission is STEALING and punishable by law. GODDAMN STUPID ***IN LITTLE KIDS.

On top of all this my supposed friends all backed scott up at the shop, guess i learned who my real friends are tonight.

Hey man, sorry to hear what happened, that guy is being a d*** if he said that the 4-wheeler thing was cool, then its over, and i'd say that that motor is worth more than $800!! I'd press charges if he doesnt give it back

Sound's like you brought this upon yourself man.... That's why you don't borrow other people's stuff...especially ATV's and other motorized veichles. It alway's turn's into a big mess. If I wrecked a friend's quad I would do all I can to pay for the damage I made, which is what you should have done. Why should HE have to pay for your error??? Go ahead and charge him or sue some people like you claim (Real Mature Way To Solve A Problem YOU Started) but the lawyer fee's will be so large that you will come out being the loser in the end run. I don't want to be an ass, but I don't feel sorry for you at all... YOU damaged HIS ATV, and there is NO reason why YOU shoudn't have to pay for it. It may have been wrong for him to take your 460, but like I said earlier it's your own fault. RydeOn said it straight to the point above.
Another Thing.....Was there actually a bill of sale or any kind of proof of purchase proving that the 460 is your's? Was it on YOUR property?? Take it to court and the judge will laugh at you. Better save up some money and pay for your damages....it's the only way the problem will be and should be solved.

I also believe you should've payed for some, not all of the repairs on the ATV. That in no way makes what he did right...or legal. When you let someone else drive your vehicle it's partly your responsibility.

The goddamn atv is his mother's property and she doesn't give a **** if i pay it back either. AND i told this ******* that i just got a new job and was going to pay him back but just not right away. Si i was going to pay him back but he wanted to make sure of it so he went ahead and stole my ****.......WRONG DECISION he will learn not to mess with me or my property. and it wasn't no $800 either he made that up cause his mother told me she hasn't even gotten an invoice for the repairs. and yes i have proof of sale that that motor is mine.

I am in agreement with the others. if he was your best friend then you should have offered to pay for it, if he said no then offer to split it with him and if he still said no then at least you know you tried.

taking your motor was not cool either but it sounds like had he not done that you wouldn't have paid for it, and still might not.

edit: must have been typing at the same time as you........I am sure if you are willing to work with his mom when she gets an invoice you will get your motor back.

I disagree with 408stroker5.0, yeah you messed up the quad and SHOULD take care of that, but stealing to compensate for it is wrong. If he was so worried about the quad then he should've taken you to court over it not break the law.

I think you need to sit back and cool down there buddy..... Just pay the guy the full amount A.S.A.P. and then get your engine back. Like I said before...you brought this upon yourself...If you don't know how to ride an ATV proparly then don't use someone else's. Go ahead and call the cop's or take them to court....it won't do you any good exept put a big hole in your bank account. Not only that, the way you explained it in your first post made it sound like you weren't going to pay for it at all....sound's like your changing your story a bit to cover yourself here. Think About This As Well......What Kind Of friend are you to wreck his quad and then not offer to pay for it????

FYI: I'm not trying to say it was right for him to steal the engine. That was wrong, but could have been avoided.

what does stealing an engine have to do with repaying an atv? people on this thread have no clue. the atv is one issue, the motor is another. if he walked into to a business and was allowed to take your motor without your permission, then that's grand theft. no if, and's about it. your so called friend is wrong and I would press charges because he's not a friend and doesn't have respect for you or your property. if you made a verbal agreement about the atv, then that will hold up in court, especially if you have a witness. stop giving this guy bad advice and patronizing him. and no its no his fault, its the person who gave permission to use the atv. they should have insurance. so if I damaged someone else's property, do they have the right to walk into my house/property and steal something of mine? of course not. how is this any different. I don't see how he brought this about himself. that's why its called an accident, and taking somehthing w/o permission is stealing. how you like me know? that's it, i'm done

Some people here don't know how to deal with there own problems. Jeez. "Sue Him, Call The Cops, Press Charges!" Grow Up people. Learn how to deal with it instead of whining to some judge or cop who have way better thing's to worry about then some kid's. Some people don't realize what it end's up costing to take someone to court. A problem like this is not worth the time, hassle and money especially when the problem can be delt with pretty easily.
Two friend's I'm sure can work something out. If it was someone you didn't know who took your engine then it would be a different story.

me? i'd kick his ass and take my motor back myself. If he hadn't said "don't worry about the atv", even if he'd been freakin out and saying "you have to pay for this!" I would still kick his ass for taking my motor. Paying him back for the ATV is something the two of you need to work out. Stealing your motor is NOT the way to go about working it out. My vote is for beat his lil' ass. .

I'm with rydeon/housstangguy/408 - settle down and take a breath. You've got some accountability in this mess too and the sooner you see it, the sooner things will start to straighten out. If I wrecked something of my "best friend's" I'd have my wallet out EVEN IF he told me not to worry about it. Solve it yourself - no need to get others involved, especially cops and lawyers. Read the reactions here - they're pretty mixed. I don't think you're gonna get a lot of sympathy from the cops; and if you think $800 or losing the motor is expensive, just wait til you hire a lawyer. Time to grow up - sit down and talk it through with him. Work it out.

You didn't steal the ATV but they sure did steal your motor and that's the crime. They have no right to steal for collateral. Either make a deal with them to fix the ATV and if they disagree call the authorities. You can't just take someone elses property when you want, it's a crime.

Yea, he shouldnt of stole your motor. That was wrong all alone and he should have tried to work it out with you more before doing anything stupid like that for sure. Yes you messed up his 4 wheeler, it DOES NOT give him the right to take your property. ITS HIS RESPONSABILITY TO NOT LEND YOU HIS 4 WHEELER. I'd have a police report done ASAP in case this goes to court. You'd have proof that he stole your property.

Take him to court. The judge will have him either give you back the engine or have him pay you what it's worth. There was no written agreement that you would pay for the damages. He is in the wrong and stole your engine. The "friend" should be beaten with a metal pipe IMO.

This is why I don't borrow things I can't myself afford to fix or replace.

408stroker is a moron... "Pressing charges is immature, blah blah blah im a dirty tramp".. a "FRIEND" of mine stole over a grand worth of DVD's from my house. I never officially knew it was him until he left to go for college but you BETTER ****ING BELIEVE when he gets back i'm dealing with him myself. No police, no courts. He had no right to steal your engine if you had told him that you would pay him to fix it you just didnt have the money right now. You not having an engine isnt going to make you get money any faster and theft is theft.. Do what you want to do but dont listen to 408. Take him to court, Report him to the police, whatever you want, either way he deserves what he gets.
