my wheel project (pics)

last year when i was driving my GT i didnt have an extra set of winter wheels. unfortunately chicago winter kicked my 18x9 and 18x10 FR500 wheels ass. the salt started pitting the dish on the rears (didnt do much for the lip on the fronts either). this year, when i got my cobra it came with the stock wheels and i was able to pick up a great deal on some blizzaks (96 bucks each at tire rack!!!) so i can now retire the 18's for summer only.

so i wanted to clean up the 18's so i wont be embarrassed taking my car to local shows this summer and have my rims look like garbage. i started the process of wetsanding the dish on one of the rears tonight. i am starting with a 400 grit, then an 800, 1000, and 2000. since my fingers and arm are getting tired i figured i would post some progress pics!!

first a couple pics of my car at the very beginning of snow season wearing some fresh blizzaks.

ya i have a second car but its an a-to-b car. so i try to keep my gt in its cage for the winter but its just so hard! next year i have to do better since its going to have a new saleen kit on it. I know eventually these rims are getting replaced so im not too worried. btw it all looks amazing bro! :nice:

When you guys get to a warm enough day you can pull them off and give them a thorough cleaning, follow up with some paint sealant, Does incredible things on rims, I don't get salt down here but brake dust doesn't stick anywhere near as bad!!

Paint Sealants like Klasse, Wolfang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant
Winterizing Your Car's Exterior

thats a good site....some of the products are insane expensive though.

i already own the meguiers NXT 2.0. i didnt know it was considered a paint sealant. i will have to apply that to my wheels before they go back on the car.

Dumb question but you only did the lip? I have stock rims on my Bullitt. If i were to get rid of the pitting on my wheels I'll go through the same process as you did? (lip)Once you get it as clean as possible (sanding)then a aluminum polish for the up keep?
Thanks
