need help.... 04 gt with my novi 1k and a horrible dyno

I'd always read and heard not to Mike, but I guess it makes sense if you ran thicker...

And I thought my numbers were kinda low ;) Car was near 270/306 (sorry I forget) N/A

To the OP, have you taken it to a different shop yet? I'm very interested in the outcome. I was wondering about the stock fuel pump with a BAP as well, but if your AF was good then I doubt you were running out of fuel. Just don't see too many people running stock pump with 8#s

I absolutely agree with 04YellowGT. Dynos are just a tuning tool and not good for much else.

On the dyno, my 2.3 put down 266rwhp... which I went 12.9's at 106mph.
I added a 40 shot and put down 306rwhp and ran 12.26 in the quarter... in a full weight 88 mustang. Dynos are subject to error and interpretation. What matters is how the whole combination works together and gets you down the track.

Another point... very very clearly my 2.3 makes peak torque at around 3500 and the torque drops off fast as it approaches 5500. This is clear as day and should be expected with a camshaft from a pickup truck and a stock junk yard turbo. According to the dyno sheet, I made peak torque at 5500 where they let off and it was still climbing. :nonono: The pull took about 2 seconds from when they pushed the gas until they let off. That's not right at all!

I have a car that always dynos low. Though this shop may be dicking you over it could be the car just doesn't lay the numbers down. A dyno is tool for tuning and it doesn't matter if the car puts down 30rwhp or 3000rwhp all that matters is what you run at the track. That tells you what you car can do.

thats rediculous, i put down 301 RWTQ and 260 WWHP on a dyno jet dyno at MPH tuning.. and that was with weld in mufflers, o/rH, K&N, Throttle body and plenum... bone stock pretty much.
those numbers are PISS poor, so low that even if they were trying to scam you that would be a horrible attempt..they robbed you of 130+ HP, sureley they don't believe ANYONE is THAT stupid.
i'd take it to another dyno and see whats up, if not i'd see about taking it to a mustang shop near you and having them look over the installation.

just for the update..today i finally took it to another shop..to be honest i was giving up on the car and i decided just to go see what could be wrong so today we discovered that I had 2 sparkplugs messed up and another one in really bad shape..and by the way the car was running on the stock sparkplugs for a mustang gt rather than a colder step for the blown engine..(maybe the dealership did a fast tune up before selling it)..so they replaced them for a set of colder step plugs..and the car woke up!..so do you guys think that the dyno makes more sense or the plugs woudnt make such a difference?...the car has been feeling really rough from mid to high rpms before changing the plugs..now its really smooth all the way through the blowers power band..anyways im hoping i can get the car dynoed soon so i can post some numbers

Plugs wouldnt cause 60rwhp loss. You need to start posting up the name of the shop, attach an image of your dyno graph with air/fuel. I would STOP driving your car hard or stop driving it all together until you get a valid tune. You are already running the risk of detonating and popping a piston.

Our 2v's need a good tune to last.

i do have a diablo cmr chip with a valid tune, otherwise my engine would b gone long time ago,the way i drove the car sometimes,i thought everything was fine till i dynoed..i need to dyno the car again to see if theres a difference which i can tell already by the way the car drives since now its running in all the 8 cylinders with more adecuate plugs for a blown car..so i just gotta wait and see

diablo are crap compared to SCT. I wouldnt drive that car at all until it gets properly dyno tuned.

ive heard horror stories like that millions of times from big name shops just trying to take your$$ by charging you hourly from after your first pull ( i live in philly and the mustang is new jerseys st8 car) find another shop ! my car was on a dyno for a total of like 5 hours (runnin lean with a pos focus pump) over 2 trips, the second trip i had 03 cobra pump in it and it finally responded and WE took the car out wtih a data logger a laptop and a burner box for an hour of fine tuning and it cost me 200$ and i was with my car the whole time it never left my sight

thats why i really want to do my research about a shop before taking the car back to a dyno

where i agree that the software doesnt make much of a difference, an actual dyno tune would. i agree that you need an actual dyno tune from a good tuner that you take the car to so you know whats going on with it. the tuner is charging you a lot for the tune because they are going to pull your chip and give you a hand held, tune your car, and dyno it several times to get all the parameters right by their standards. even a different shop is going to do that if they have to change software and sell you a handheld.

aside form that i still think those guys are full of crap with the cobra story and all. get away from them but expect to pay for a new tune and software. good luck

i know how you feel...still trying to work out the bugs with my tuning. i had to do a software switch and paid top dollar just like you

thanks for your help..yeah i did my research and yes when the car is throw to a dyno get tuned and tu burn you a new chip..is more expensive then just a tune..my diablo chip was burnt on a dyno..diablosport told me thats the only way to get the delta revolution(black one)..their red ones are the ones u can buy with a preloaded tune,or mod them with a handheld,so depending on how many hours the car is on the dyno thats how expensive will get,my chip is around $350+tune so it adds up,thats why im trying to find a shop that works with diablo,..

sorry to ask you this..but how did you know i was getting a handheld??...thats what they were insisting on me to get at that shop..and i wanted a chip

I have a novi 1000 also. Its a great little blower and can make a good amount of power. When I first got mine installed it had all kinds of issues. I made < 300 hp also. The stock paxton tune was crap. They didn't have SCT back then but I worked with Ed Clark, who is friends with Chris Johnson, one of the owners of SCT. He finally got my car tuned right. When my car had your level of mods I was making 390 hp. I am making 470 now.

I would definitely recommend investing in a good tune. SCT is the best but if you have to deal with Diablo, just make sure you're comfortable with your tuner.

If you have a power pipe, I would expect you to be making more than 8#. I gained 2-3# when I added a power pipe. You should be up around 10#. What size pulley do you have on there? You may have a larger pulley (less boost) than mine came with stock, though. I know they changed the pulley size at one point. Mine was a 3.4", I believe. You may have a 3.6" or something like that. If you're going to get a tune, I would definitely get a smaller pulley first, so they tune with the extra boost. If you pulley down to a 3.2" or even a 3" you can make close to 400 hp.

Also, I would go with Autolite 764 copper plugs. They are tried and true and would work perfectly with your combo.

Let me know if you have any questions about the Novi 1000.

Well today I went to dynoed my car for the first time since,I bought the car already modded..so my numbers were 285rwhp and 295tq on a dynojet..now the problem is that I have a novi 1000 boosting 8psi,and I think is really low since similar combos are running 370ish..the guy that did the pull said that it shows the 8lbs but he didn't know why it was low,...and that I can do a tune with them etc etc......so I would really appreciated if somebody has an idea of why it dynoed like that.. my mods are:
Novi 1000 rr 8psi
lightning 90mm mass
Anderson powerpipe
C&l pipes and plenum
Bosch bypass valve
42lbs injectors
Kenne bell boost a pump
Pypes x-pipe with high flow cats
Spintech mufflers and catback
Diablosport delta revolution chip
Also car is a 5 speed manual
It was done at a dynojet dyno, at 46 degrees temp, and 61% humidity, guy said that the airfuel looked good,
Thanks for any help you guys can provide me

Somethings terribly wrong here. I have the Novi 2000 and put down 430/410. blew my motor last fall, and put in a Cobra shortblock with forged internals and used a slightly smaller pulley.

thanks to everybody for helping me out...i decided that i didnt want to put more money on trying to fix, tune, etc the gt....so i went and purchase a 2003 cobra instead...... the car came with the pulleys swap, bassani, diablo chip,..etc, so thanks again for helping me out w the gt...
