I have a 99GT 5 speed, with no mods (so far that is).

However,
I have a few questions on some future mods that I am
planning on doing.

First off,

Underdrive pullies:
I have the Steeda underdrive pullies. Will I have any
charging problems or any other problems with using them ?

Cold air:
Looking at the MAC cold air system, Will it make the check engine light come on ?

Throttle body:
Again looking at the MAC throttle body, any real significant change in
milage and performance with these ?

Cat-back and X or H pipe:

I am looking at the Steeda and the MAC system. I want something that will
offer increased performance but yet will not drone and be loud ass Hell at
highway speeds. I know that I will have to use the MIL eliminators to
keep the check engine light from comming on.

Can you guys here, (who are vastly more knowlegeable than me), give me
some info one the mods that I have planned ? What kind of gains can I
expect with the mods that I have planned ?

Also:

Are there any other mods that you guys would reccomend that I also do ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Scott

You will not have any charging problems unless you have a high end sound system and even then it would be little at best. I have had pullies on for nearly 2 years and the only thing is my car runs a little hotter than I would like.

Nope

With your limited mods you probably won;t get a significant increase with just the TB. Try the TB and plenium combo. Some guys have gotten gains from swapping the whole thing on an otherwise stock set-up. Click the links below for some good infor on the different combos. I am going with a 70mm TB with the Trick Flow plenium myself but read up and decide for yourself.

Any upgrade will make it a little louder even with the stock mufflers. I had a Mac H with the stock Catback and the drone wasn't too bad but it was noticable. Now I have the Prochamber. A little quieter at speed and still has a nice growl. If you want to get a good sound and not spend a lot of cash, start with a mid-pipe whether it be an X or H. You can always do the cat-back later if you want to. Performance gains will be greatest with the mid-pipe also.

I would swap out your shifter with a Pro 5.0 or Steeda Tri-ax. THey will shorten your shifts and give you a good feel compared to the stock. Later on you can swap out your gears. Do a search on gears and you will find tons of info. I went with 4.10's and have not regreted it.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I will definately go with the MAC exaust then. Without the cats, since we don't have emession testing here in TN.
Hell I can just turn up the radio if it gets too loud. LOL

Thanks again,

Scott

I went with the magnaflow catback on my car, the steeda was about 200 more I think, I only paid 350 for mine and quality was top notch, and not too loud, as far as cai its more show than go, although there is a thread on here where a guy is having his car dynoed after putting on the straight shot system(with the maf) , he hasnt posted the #'s yet but said its promising, .I have the densecharger and would not do it again. Get a shifter, I have the steeda tri-ax it works well, I hear pro 5.0 is good too. If you get a tb stay away from mac some ppl have had idle problems, get a 75mm tb, bbk or accufab makes them, and get a upper intake plenum at the same time , trick flow performance makes a good one at the best price, or accufab makes a polished one but its a little more $$.

Forget the Mac CAI. Its made of heat and will run hot. The 90 degree bend before the MAF meter isn't good for performance either. Forget the throttle body as well. Since your basically stock, a larger throttle body won't do much good. That, and I had a Mac throttle body once and it was a piece of crap.

If you want to know what mods really work, look at my sig. They work great for me.

How is something made of heat????

The MAC and BBK CAI are made pretty much the same way and have a chrome finish which is what the guy above me is trying to say. Anything with a chrome finish can hold heat. If you drive your car for 2-3 hours straight, yes it will be very hot to touch and could possibly be heating the air moving through it. IMO it doesnt affect the air enough to warrent the dislike people on here have for them. The plus side about chrome is while it may get hot, it can also get cold :nice: You slap a bag of ice on the cai at the track or on a dyno and you will see a definate difference.

I know someone is going to say well if cold helps, you just killed your heat arguement. Not so. When icing the intake, you have a very dense supply of air that will move though the car once started. The chrome holds the cold for a short time and makes the air more dense equaling more power. Once the first few minutes of really dense air are used up, the air is moving to fast through the cai to notice much of a difference regardless if its hot or cold.

When putting on a cai you are also putting on a better than stock air filter. If you already have a k & n filter then yes, a cai may be a waste for you, but if you still have your stock filter, you will notice some nice gains from the piece.

As for your other parts, and x/h pipe and catback will score you around 10-15 hp since your going with an o/r pipe. Underdrive pulleys, I have noticed 0 charging problems and 0 problems with the car heating. I have had my pulleys on for several months now. If your going to do a tb id do as advised above and go with a tb/plenum combo. I was the oddball lol, my car only noticed a few peak #'s, but I picked up around 15hp and 20lb/ft of torque between 2000-4500 rpms :nice: Everyone else seemed to pick up peak #'s though
