What do you all think of the new Chevy SS line coming out soon? How do you think the GT will do against the 303 HP Monte Carlo and Impala SS? What about the V6 mustang against the 240 HP Malibu SS? I know that probably sounds a little dumb, but I just wanted to throw that out there to see what everyone thinks. Thanks!

don't confuse the SS term with some sort of power upgrade... the SuperSport option has been historically a trim upgrade... You could get a 1963 Nova SS... it had the same in-line 6 engine, but extra trim, bucket seats, console, and it was only on the hardtop or vert (not the sedan with the post).

don't get me wrong... SS or not, it's been a long time since GM put out anything worth owning besides the vette. Besides, making a FWD car quick is more work than it's worth. What's the target market for the impala or monte? not the same crowd that is buying the mustang...

Well, they should be just as fast as an auto GT. I have yet to see anyone drag race the new 4-door 5.3 liter GM cars, but the Pontaic did the Grand Prix to a 14.2 @99 MPH in Motor Trend.

I would imagine the lighter Monte would do better, as well with real drivers. The MPH says that they will be in competition with the GT's.

I went 13.6 in my auto, and the car wasn't even broken in.

What I think is that GM is trying to increase its profit margin on cars by selling overrated SS models at a premium. They're counting on consumers with fat wallets and no knowledge about cars to shell out big bucks so they can brag about their peak flywheel HP numbers.

Not a bad strategy, actually. I can think of a lot of stupid people that would fall for that.

The only new rear wheel drive SS's are the SSR and the Trailblazer SS. The Trailblazer is gonna be pretty sick though, 400 hp ls2 and all time awd. The Monty would be so much better if it was rearwheel drive.

I have driven a prototype Impala SS. It is basically a 4 dr monte carlo. Same platform and powertrain. It is not even in the same league as the mustang. First of all, it is wrong wheel drive and it has a really nasty torque steer problem. The accel won't be nearly as good as the stang.
