New 306 in, not quite right though......

Today was spent installing my new 306 and transmission into my Mustang. got it all done around 8 and fired it up. Started right up and ran very nicely. After that it seems as if everything went downhill.

In order to start the car now, you have to put your foot to the floor on the gas. It'll start and seems like its running right, but it has no power. Heck, my dad's station wagon could smoke my car right now. First gear won't even break the tires loose. Here's what the combo is

302 bored .030 over to 306
10:1 forged pistons
Ford I beam rod and crank
World Products Windsor Jr. heads (complete valve job, 1.94 intake, 1.60 exh.)
B-303 Cam
1.6 rocker arms
GT40 upper and lower
65mm throttle body and spacer
30lb injectors
Kirban Adj. fuel pressure reg
75mm (I think it's that size) calibrated mass air

I'm not real sure on where to go with this right now. We toyed with the timing and fuel pressure but nothing really seemed to help. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks

the firing order might be off
your valves might be mis adjusted and not getting enough fuel to fire itell you put the gas all the way to the floor to give it enough fuel
maybe fuel injectors not right size for mass air meter

what you got the fuel pressure set at and what it the timing at

i, by no means have enough experience to say, but i was wondering what size fuel pump you where running? it wasnt in you list.

in an efi car, pushing the gas pedal to the floor does not put gas into the motor if it is not running. that stops the fuel flow to the cylinders, so it will crank if flooding or something.

did you break in the cam, check your oil for metal flakes. if you didn't you need to

Roller cams don't need to be broken in.

I've got the fuel pressure set right now to about 38 at idle. The base timing we set at 10 degrees. The car still has a stock pump (last owner left it in there and I haven't changed it yet). My B cam was in the last motor for a little over 50,000 miles so it's good to go. I was toying with the timing and fuel pressure a little more this morning and it seemed that when I retarded the timing a little it seemed to run a bit better, but still nowhere near where I was thinking it would.

stud or pedestal mount rockers? If they're pedestal mount, they need to be torqued to 18-26 lbs, so if you didn't do that, some of them could have came lose and what not and that will cause it to have no power (valves not opening!), but still run...I just did this, so I know

That cam/those heads will want a bunch more ignition timing. Crank up the static timing to around 16 btdc with the spout out, and then come back and let us know how it's doing. Is it actually mis-firing, or just running like it has no power?

You're exactly right. There just wasn't enough advance in the timing. After the timing was adavanced it's easy to tell that this new engine has some major cajones! Thanks for all your help everyone

i was going to say timing, because i had the exact same problem... Advanced it, and it ran like a raped ape for 2 hours before i blew another headgasket.
