The top motor in my 91 gave up the ghost last night. Both relays click , and it has 12v going each direction but the motor is lifeless.

Before I order a new one. Is the pump cross compatible with other cars?
Is there a better than stock part I can look at?

Most hydraulic convertible top motors are basically the same. The late 90s and early 2000s mustang motors have some updates to them and can be wired in to work. The connector is different. I've done it before and it worked well. That was over 15 years ago so I can't remember exactly what I had to do. The factory motors last a very long time though. Yours lasted about 30 years so upgrading is kind of not worth it.

Ok. An update. I got the new pump in. Filled with new merc/dec III, filled it, not over filled it, but it struggles to get the top down. It’ll go from down to up without issue, but when going down, I have to give it a little push to get going. Anyone have experience with this?

Can you swap the relays around and see if its an issue with the down relay? Also, pull the switch apart and clean the contacts as this can also affect operability.
