Well I bought a new daily commuter vehicle. I saw this on Ebay and was going to bid on it, but someone used the "Buy it Now" then didn't pay the lister. About two weeks later I found it listed on Craigslist, and worked out a deal on it.
It's a 1978 Honda CX500, 32k miles, 440lbs dry, 4.5 gallon tank, new Pirelli tires, new stator, valves just adjusted. A coworker bought one of these new and put nearly 100k miles on w/o major issue. He also told me that the clutch basket located on the front of the engine counter-rotates to the driveshaft and acts as sort of a gyro to help stabilize the bike.
Yes this is my 1st bike and has everything I was looking for, shaft drive(no chain to screw with), water cooled(can sit in traffic in FL heat), mag wheels(no spokes or tubes to deal with), and a small bike to start on. I will be riding it after I take the MSF course and get some around town riding under my belt.

Mufflers are from an 883 Sportster, they sound good but not too loud.

I'll probably either repaint the spokes or possibly polish them.

This is not your average V-twin...

I'm very happy with the bike, though I haven't done much other than push it around with my feet and a very short ride up and down the street. I was trying to avoid a Honda, but this bike met all my wants so when it became available again, I jumped on the deal.

Thanks for all the comments, my daughter and I will probably clean it all up tomorrow. It is an odd motor but very reliable from what I've read and heard. I only had to convince the wife to get a bike.

Juggalo95, check Craigslist often, that is my best advice. Vintage bikes can be found quite often on there. The old Yamaha XS650 is quite cheap to repair and many parts can still be had new. Other places to look are swap meets and even AMA Dragbike races. I've seen some pretty nice old bikes for sale at the track. I've seen a Honda 400 hondamatic, KZ 400, and KZ 1000 running around the pits. Last year a guy was riding around the pits on an old Suzuki rotary bike, pretty cool looking bike.
