Well i went to look at the 308.... that was a 306.... and turned out to be a honed 302... Lol but it looked clean and the guy lived 10 minutes away so i took a chance.... he said it was fresh from a shop called lorenzos or something in FL... Its a 94 cobra block with most accessories minus the AC and smog which was gutted... The guy said that the pistons crank and rods came from a early 92 with about 25,000 miles on them and the pistons were the forged ones... he said that it has hardened pushrods, TFS heads, 1.6 roller rockers, and a comp cam verry similar to an e cam... all new gaskets just installed(copper head gaskets) i paid $1200 and i got a new radiator... mine was leaking... a set of BBK shorties.... and energy suspension motor mounts... and a few other things... if the motor is in the condition he said it was i should be in good shape... im gonna have my friend pull a head to check i think... My transmission came this week 40,000 miles i paid $400 shipped from ohio....

I think i got a good deal lets hope for the best.... He also had a roller 95 gt for sale a alumnium ds and an x pipe... if i get cash i might head back for the DS.... as of right now we are doing the swap in 2-3 weeks... :)

how much do the 5.0 engines way.... loaded up the 750lb engine stand didnt seem to like it... we had to support it quite a bit!!!

on with the pics:.......or not g/fs pc is on 56k:nonono: more tomorrow.... stop back

yeh thats a good deal....you might want to swap out the cam before you put the engine in. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable running a "mystery" cam. Could cause you a bunch of problems when trying to tune, etc. Did you decide if your going to put it in or have someone do it for you?

good luck man. I wouldn't have bought an engine I couldn't see run, but you've obviously got bigger balls than I do...

on a different note...didn't you just pick up shorties a month or two ago? so now you have two pairs?

he was setting it up for a turbo kit... it was never ran however... he does have the turbo kit for sale too....yea i havent found anything out about the heads.... its at my friends house im having him pull a head this week... maybe ill call trick flow and they can help me id them i think they are alumnium i dont know y they wouldnt be... all i know is the kid spent $1000 on them

I found some serious info on the heads searching on corral...

"The original ones were a venture between Trick Flow and Kaufmann Racing...... they had TFS cast in large letters on one end and KPI on the other....... letters about an inch high............ it wasn't until Trick Flow went solo that they eliminated the TFS/KPI cast into the ends.........
"
and

This is pointless to argue, but I live 10 minutes from Rick Smith, and the two car garage that was the original location of Trick Flow Specialties from day one. I have known Rick and Mike Smith since the late 80's when they started with the big block heads (before they ever did small block heads), and now work for/with Fox Lake, owned by Ron Robart that was the head porter for Trick Flow from the beginning. Will-Burt Automotive (the correct spelling) is the company (still in business) that cast the original TFS/KPI version for the Smith brothers. They also cast the second version of the high port head for TFS and due to low funding of the Smith brothers they actually helped fund the project and market the heads after the TFS/KPI venture went sour. They changed the castings on the ends of the heads at that time to remove any assocoation with KPI, so you have a second version that was done by TFS/Will-Burt.......... which is actually a better head than the TFS/KPI heads since it was revised a little when recast by Will-Burt.

Secondly, the original versions that have TFS/KPI cast into them were never available in cast iron, only aluminum. When Will-Burt teamed up with Trick Flow to start up production without KPI's involvment they offered the second version in cast iron as well as aluminum. I owned the third set of cast iron TFS/Will-Burt heads ever made, and that was in early 1992 and were handed to me personally by Rick Smith. I had the original TFS/KPI versions for over 2 years before getting the the revised high ports in cast iron to try.

There's your history lesson, not that any of this matters.

They are known as street heat... and aparently the TFS KPIs were only available in alumnium but from what ive been reading they are decent heads

anyone... am i assuming correct????

Man, for being rebuilt, there is a lot of oil on the spark-plug boss. Did you pull any plugs before you bought it? I would try to find where the oil is coming from before you dive into it (I.E. buying new parts etc.). It looks like it was boosted already and had some serious blow-through or something worse. Just cover your rear and do some simple things to make sure it is a good motor. Start by trying to "prime" the engine (turn the crank) to make sure it will at least spin. Then pull your plugs and see what they look like, then if you are really venturious, pull a head to see what up. Check the oil too, from the looks of it, it may still have the oil in it. Use a magnet to check for and metal and look for aluminum shavings as well. Let us know what you find out... Keep the guys number handy just in case!!!
