I finally got 3.73's put in my stang and WOW!! its a whole different car!! I have slightly shorter wheels than stock, 245/50/15 tires so its about the same as a 3.90 with stock tires. my mods are: c&l mam, mac intake, 65mm tb, mac shorties, mac o/r x-pipe, flowmasters, pro5.0 sts.

For anyone who has 2.73's still in their car, get rid of them!!

congrats, i love it when a mod makes a huge difference, makes all the money and time seem worthwhile, i stil have the 2.73's and plan to keep them since i do ALOT of freeway driving, but soon i'll buy a beater and then gears away!

i think the bearings in my rear end were starting to go bad after 150k miles cuz the car felt like it was dragging, ie while driving or coasting neutral. gas mileage improved and doesn't seem to drag at all. not to mention it woke up the car.

very good.. the car should really feel powerful now
the guy had 3:73's and traction lok in my car when i bought it.. and man first gear is just a GRANNY gear.. you cant go 10 mph lol

granny gear? Id like to say first gear is more like... a truck able to pull a damn boat... gear... :rlaugh: Yeah, 1st gear is basically useless... I hardly ever actually try to use it. Let out the clutch and immediately go to second.. thats where the fun is anyways. :nice:

I wish i could shift into second.. without freaking grinding.. my damn tranny is going to go if i ever speed shift because it has to go in fast or i will loose time.. :bang: damn T5

Well, it's been said that 3:73's imrpove effieciency around town if you drive it nice. I never seen an increase is gas mileage myself though.

I'm also still waiting to see if the rumour that Super Chargers increase HWY mileage... I haven't been able to go on any long hauls with the SC yet so we will see.

how did it increase gas mileage

like i said before, the car felt like something was dragging, like the brakes or something. just sitting in neutral at a very slight incline the car wouldn't roll. but after the gear swap and rebuild i noticed it was alot better.

I noticed a decent increase in city driving gas milage. It's just because you barely have to crack the throttle to get the car rolling and up to speed with 3.73's. With those horrible 3.08's you had to step on it a little bit to keep up.

Sounds like the reasons I have come up with that my 5.0 gets the same mileage my 2.3 does. I have to downshift the 2.3 to go anywhere, I have to get on the gas more to move from a stop, and I have to rev it over 3000 to keep up with traffic. The 5.0 espcially with gears, just tap the gas, shift at 2300 and your good to go no problems!
