Hello,
I just placed my hands on a 1986 5.0L Vert. I am in CA and this car is a SD car. I have a few questions which if any one you can answer part please help me out.
First about the car. It is a red 1986 Vert with a black top. It has a 5.0L HO injected Speed Density engine and is an Auto. The car is rough but complete and as with any 21 year old car is ready for a refresh. There are a couple of problems I am unfamillier with. My current stable is a 1982 Capri 5.0L and a 1993 5.0 LX Hatch.
I need help on the following items:
1. The car runs and is drivable however the car will not idle while in Park. it seems like a vaccum leak and since I got the car last night I have not had time to look it over. I am home sick today so I may pop my head unser the hood and see if I can find anything. When I start the car and feather the gas I can keep it running. When I place it in to Drive the engine will rev up to 1800 and then the tranny will shift in to drive. I was able to drive it home without any issue with the exception of the tranny will not downshift by stomping on the gas. I can force it by downshifting it manually. I will need to get this handled before I can smog this beast.
2. Since this is my 1st Vert and I know nothing about how the system works. I would like any information anyone can supply. Oh and yes, the top doesn't work. the owner said it blew a line.
3. Since this a SD car I would like to cover it over to Mass Air. I know I will need parts from the boneyard, but with all the stangs sitting there I think I can get it done. I need help in getting the parts list I need for this conversion. Can anyone help out with this?
Please for give the length of this post but I would like to get this going soon. This car will be my daugther's college ride.
