Ok, just sold my modular, and I'm looking at buying a 4 cyl fox. The plan is to build a 450-500 rwhp street car. Question, how much boost can the GT 40 crate engine handle reliably?

If that engine won't work, is there a reasonably priced crate engine that can handle that kind of power?

Sometimes just the mention of a 4 cyl will get you black listed on this forum.

If it were me I would consider getting a 5.0 in decent shape. It will make the conversion much easier. No issues with brakes, rear end, etc.

I don't know much about the motor you mentioned, but the stock 302 block is likely to split in 2 at the power levels you are looking for. If that crate uses a 4 bolt block, or other aftermarket block you should be ok though.

Cost is the main reason I'm looking at 4 cyl. Thanks for the help though

Actually a stock forged ('87-'91) shortblock will hold 500whp just fine so long as the rpm level is kept in check. Keep her below 6200 rpm.

500rwhp on stock block will prolly not go to 6200 with out spliting.

but like i say al the time: stock block + power adder + 500rwhp= watse of time and money IMO
