Nick's "lvndpst" Restoration (and Slight Modification) Thread

There she sits, out shivering in the cold, too damn heavy for my wife and me to get up over the bump into the garage. Next time I'll just stink up the garage versus pushing her out to find that she wont start.

Little trick I learned when pushing my car around the garage when I didn't want to start the engine was to push the tops of the wheels in the direction you want to go, vs the actual car. You get a little leverage advantage doing it that way. I have a slight hill and it's how I get mine back up the hill all alone.

Of course you actually need to be able to get your hands in there without slicing them on the fender lips.

Alright, my local Ford dealer can have an ignition pickup for me tomorrow, and its supposed to be high 40s and sunny. I am taking the afternoon off to grab the part and give it a go. I have read its much easier to get a new distributor, but cant find any new motorcraft ones. Plus I already have a new cap and rotor on it, and Im a glutton for punishment. Lets see if I cant totally F it up.

5 speed cars can be moved with the starter :D you would be surprised how much torque those little motors make

20-years or so ago when all my friend's had fox bodies, one managed to drive about 1/8 mile just by bypassing the clutch switch, and using the starter. They'd run up to 2nd gear, get a little speed and then coast.

So far, not so good. Got the pins that hold the distributor gear and spacer out immediately, but the gear wont budge. Tried heat, tried lube, no go. Gonna buy a puller tomorrow and see if I can get it before calling it all off and buying a different distributor. Anyone have brand preferences from first hand experience?

If you get one I like the bwd stuff from advanced auto.. they acquired carquest and the bwd brand is by far better than what they offered before.

I may have a known good distributor in a work bin.... leftovers from my edis8 swap.

@madmike1157 everything I do is your fault, good or bad.

I was able to get the gear off today, no thanks to any gear puller tool. I beat the shaft while the distrubtor hung by the gear upside down. After all the beating with a 2.5 lb hammer, all I managed to break was the cap base when I dropped it on the garage floor, lol.

It now has a new Motorcraft ignition pickup, fresh paint on the outside, new cap base, new Motorcraft cap and rotor, and the new Motorcraft TFI should be here Thursday. Im $110 into it, but I like to think it will be more reliable than aftermarket distributors.

The thing about you guys suggesting coil on plug, EDIS, yada yada, is that you mistake me for a guy with money. I have blown my 5 year budget in about a year and two months. I have to make do with less for a while.

And finally, the only question now is will it start when Im finished? Stayed tuned for the answer on Thursday night!

Two things:

1) Porch pirates better not steal my TFI module that is waiting for me to get home!

2) A buddy of my bought a little etching kit to make those metal cups and mugs with pictures engraved on them. I drew up this to represent my car with the Cobra bumper and '83 scoop while bored at work this morning. What do you think, should I have him make me one, or revise anything about it.

Expect he will need a tuner like a Moates QH to turn on the specific functions needed to make the edus8 work with an A9L.

Last I checked that was $500+ or so.

If I'm wrong I'd be ecstatic as I'm into my edis8 stuff for well under $100 minus the 36-1 wheel.

Im not the tuning type of person. I hate electronics as a matter of fact. So installing, trouble shooting, revamping the ignition system isnt going to happen until this car sees an engine much more potent than what I put in, and I can pay someone to do that change over.
