no brake lights, & will not get out of park

I just noticed this morning when I just went and was ready to go to work, my car did not want to get out of PARK. I manually pulled the wire that connects the safety park actuator to the shifter in order to get to work. I then noticed that I didn't have any brake lights. I remember tapping on the brake pedal alot this morning trying to get tha car off of park and into drive. could I have brokenb the brake switch? also can I just eliminate the actuator for the brake shifting mechanism altogether? I called ford and they said they dont repair that on an old 1992 gt, they did away with those repairs. So what to do?

Turn the key to the first position and put it in neutral and start it if that works it needs a brake switch and yes ford still sells them for our cars.

it wasn't the brake switch, it was the connector that connects to the brake switch. One of the slides where a prong goes in was broken so it was making contact on adn off, there for engaging the actuator at times and at times not. that is also why it woul dnot let me get out of park at times. also not allowing juice to go through the (GOOD) switch.

all in all, the brake ligtht activate the actuator for the parking safety mechanism, but because there was poor contact or no contact at all going through the switch it did not allow to shift out of park, very smart thing as a safety precaustion when you have no brake lights..
