no compression after lashing valves

I'm attempting to find out why after lashing my valves, the engine has no compression.. or at least it seems.

Before lashing the valves and cranking the engine in the correct rotation, you can feel the compression.. no problem. It takes lot's of force to rotate.

However, after lashing the valves, and rotating in the normal direction of rotation, the engine spins freely. Hence, no hissing sound or resistance.

Any ideas?

Yeah you should really measure it with a dial indicator. But that's just me, I like knowing the numbers. Also, give your lifters time to bleed down if you hadn't done that. Otherwise you're fighting the spring when you tighten it.
