Lowering - Gift from above OR SIN?

Just gotta get a censes. I think lowering my 66 Fastback is an appearance gift from God. I'm not some lowering freak but I think lowering some cars makes them look tough.
What's everyone elses thoughts...mean while check out this bad ride! Ok I'm trying to build my ego...just humor me

Lowering the car too much will end up like this.

I try to fix by adding more space for the yoke. Just love lowered car.

It's a no brainer. Low is cool, and looks mean.

I wish my 66 coupe could look as good as your fastback.

I agree, that most of the classic stangs look better if lowered A LITTLE. one to 2 inches tops. My 72 is dropped 1" all around and I think it looks a lot better. of course when I bought it, it was jacked up in the back about 2 inches above stock. I guess it was a left over from the late 70's early 80 when that was the trend . I have to admit it looked really goofy, jacked up with 14inch wheels. Way too much empty wheel well.

I want to lower mine but I just realized that I may have trouble getting up onto my driveway, for some reason even stock cars bottom out on it, the city built it at a stupid angle.

Well, maybe im crazy, but i believe my 65 coupe is at the stock ride height and i believe it looks low enough for me. or maybe the coils are starting to sag? i dont know, but lowering it any more would be too much for me. the front and rear look low. i have new rear leafs sitting in the garage, maybe they will lift the back a tad but i suppose the rear being a little higher than the front isnt so bad, after all that was the look back then. tell me what u think

For the most part.. I think lowering an inch or 2 does nothing to help with appearance.

BUT, it needs to match the car.. a car going for the factory look.. steel wheels and whitewall tires, just doesn't look right lowered.

However.. some larger more modern styled wheels and lowering is almost a must-do.

Dude I think your stang looks bad A*S! But if it were me I would lower it about an inch above the tires.
But, I love your car so don't take it the wrong way.

Thanks, u should see a good picture of it. It needs a paint job too, just because of some work i have been doing. I measured between the wheel wells and the tires on the front and its only a little less than 2 inches.... maybe someday ill do a 1" drop if i need new coils! thanks for the compliment non the less

You're crazy.

I should say - I think the car looks great, but I would lower it some. That front end is too high for my taste.

You don't need much money to lower your car.

1. Shelby drop (free - well ok it costs an alignment, but that's not spendy).
2. Rebuild rear leafs like Opentracker does (I hope the thread's still around). This mod isn't free, but for sure less than $100, probably less than $50.
3. You can cut the front coils a little if necessary to fine tune the front (free if you have a grinder).

Why wait? Start now!

Dodgestang must have the new AirRide technologies set up

When you lower your car, what does that do to the ride quality? I know the stiffer the springs the rougher the ride, but if you do the Shelby drop and cut a coil or so out of the fronts, how does that effect the ride?

Any time I've lowered a car on stock springs it makes it ride much stiffer. However, when I have done it with lowering springs like eibach then it normally rides a little stiffer but I think it rides better. Personally I like a car to ride a little stiff because if it doesn't it reminds me of a 70 Lincoln Town Car floating rather than point and shoot. But if you Cut lowering springs it will really ride stiff because they are normally progressive rate springs. So when you cut them you're cutting off the soft part of the spring and putting the remaining stiff part of the spring back into the car.
