I'm looking to get a new set of rims and tires. I think I've finally decided on the 17x9 and 17x10.5 Bullit w/ deep dish rear with 275/40 and 315/35. Would this be a good combo or not. Advice and opinions greatly appreciated.

man that sounds like it will look awsome. i too will be buying wheels soon and am trying to decide on a tire size as well. my wheels are 8.5in. and 10 in. and i think im going with 275 in back and not sure about front. anyway i wanted to go real huge all the way around, but i don't want to be slowed down. you will be weighed down with those sizes

u will be mr. plow when u get those; mr. steering plow. 275/40 is what i am currently running all around, but after these are shot, i am goin back down in size on the front. they will fit fine on 17x9, but just doesn't feel the same, plus extra weight.

that's the exact setup i'm going for shortly. but 275's in the front work just fine for me, i've been running them for a year all the way around with no problems & don't think going from a 255 to a 275 is gunna slow you down any, & if it does it's going to be by a miniscule amount

How much of a weight difference is there between the stock size tire and rim and the ones I've decided on? While I was researching tire sizes and whatnot, I found out that the 275/40 and 315/35 are exactly the same everything that the 245/45 are, pertaing to speedo and outside diameter.. thanks

What would be better for a 265 on an 18" rim? 40 or 35 aspect ratio? Keep in mind these would only be for the fronts, 35 would be a little shorter than stock, 40 a little taller. If 275's really track that bad, I guess I'll get 265's. They'll never see snow.

265/35.. its about .3" shorter than stock.. not very noticable, plus the speedometer reads from the rear wheels so its ok to go slightly shorter in front

Yeah, I know about the speedometer reading, so that's why I'm not worried about finding a perfect match for the front. The 295/35's I want to get for the back are slightly taller than stock, but I've got a SpeedCal and can adjust for that anyway.

Deadlurker - That's exactly what I'm going to be running.

If going with a 18" rim, the size 275/35/18, keep the speedometer the same as stock tires do.

Is it correct to assume that having 17's would be better performance wise than say 18's?

handling wise I noticed less body roll and better overall handling from having 18" wheels/tires (also due to the width). Traction wise 17" is definately better, especially with a stickier tire. This is of course due to the fact that 18" tires' sidewalls are hard as a rock providing no flex.

Unless you have a speedcal, in which case you can calibrate for different tire sizes.

Toyo Proxes are very sticky and great in the rain. 285/35/18 rear, 265/35/18 front work and looke great!
