OT: Girlfriend + Mustang = Disaster - What can I do???

And now for the real truth from the mouth of a female...If a girl really cares about you and if it is going to work out in the long run you have to share similar interests or she at least has to support you in what you love doing. if it's a problem now it's not going to get any better as you guys try to grow in your relationship. The only reasonable thing that i would think it would be ok for her to get upset about would be if you're not including her. if you are kind of sexist and don't allow her around you when you are working on your cars and say it's a guy thing i admit that would piss me off to. she may just be yearning to learn? i love watching and helping my boyfriend work on his car, i have a lot of fun hanging out with him and the guys and learning new things...maybe she feels left out? The only other issue that i have with my car addicted boyfriend is if he complains about spending 20 bucks on a dinner out and then drops 1200 on a new exhaust setup. i don't mind him spending money on his car AT ALL but don't complain about spending it on other things as well...that's just my two cents...if you have either of the problems i mentioned, work on it, she may have a right to be upset but if not and she just doesn't understand your love for improving your car she never will so don't get attatched to her or the relationship.

Ok... Stangette...Now the REAL TRUTH!!

Ive been married 13+ years. My wife could give a rat's a$$ about my Mustang, other than it makes ME happy.
The Comprise:
I have to be willing to let her have interests that I dont care about....I actually think it's good for a marriage/relationship for each party to have an interest that the other hates, as long as 1. they let you do it and 2. it doesnt get out of control.

No matter what tho, if you are getting into a NEW relationship, and the girl OR GUY, tells you NOT to do it, or CHANGE the way youre currently doing it, then youre OUTTA THERE!

Remember...Relationships are supposed to start all mushy and gooey, and get "normal" from there. IF things are ALREADY starting out bad, it WILL NOT (and I repeat WILL NOT) get better from there..

Thanks
RC

(one thing you ARE DEFINITELY right about Stangnette is the complaining about the $20 for dinner, and then spending droves on the car) When I was young and dated, (20 years ago), I would easily spend $30-$40 on a dinner out with my gf (which was a LOT in 1984) as long as she had a good time.

my ex would be the same way, then eventually I just got her to start helping me with the car, like little things. For example bring me whatever wrench or socket and eventually she got interested in them. I think if you can include her in your hobby it will make both of you happier. I mena after all she just wants to spend time with you, and if you invite her to be with you while you are working on your first love i think she will appreciate.

My dad told me when I got my first car and I got the keys,

"Son tits and tires cause nothing but money and problems".

And its true I am damn near broke beacuse of both of them, as far as the problems, the g/f causes more then the car.

I am luckly I have a g/f who is into cars and wants to learn as much as possible. She wants to get her own stang and rip it apart. The only problem I can see in the future is competition!

I can't realy help ya out bro. I'm divorced after 7 years, and on my 14th Mustang! You car will never talk back, get knocked up and divorced you because you spend to much time with your G/F. KEEP THE CAR.. THere cheaper in the long run and hold there value better... :)

NJ Exile..........Me
14................1 :(

I just got rid of my last g/f and one of the biggest reasons was my Cobra, the auto-x events I go to and the arguements afterward. At first I tried to comprimise (less events & more time and money on her), that didn't work. So I didn't go to any events for a while, well if it wasn't auto-x she was getting demanding & moody over something else. So, she was let go...another notch in the bedpost and I still have a hot car that still costs a fortune but will never get fat! The moral of the story - it wasn't my car or my hobby, those were just 2 excuses she had to bitch about something. Now she can bitch to someone else about what they do. Some people are just negative. BTW - she drives a 2001 WS6 & I blew her doors off...that may have made her a little bitter.

hahahahahaha :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

Sorry about the double post, just read that. I envy you man. My ex wants me back after cheating on me over 13 times, and wants me to drop the stang, and every time she tries, I tell her that "the stangs never gone back to it's previous owner, why would I give that up". Boy she gets angry at that

They all suck!

I had an ex girlfriend of mine constantly complain about my old foxbodied stang that I was constantly modifying. It eventually led up to her cheating on me. My car was her excuse, and it was lame one at that. It killed me for a little while, but I realized that women that complain about your hobby, or what makes you happy, are just self centered, and just plain SUCK!!!!(in more than one way). Anyway, my wife now, is cool about my stang, and complains rarely, and when she does I just simply tell her this, "The stang was around before I met you, and it'll be around when your gone. So think about it" Food for thought. :nice:

Wait wait wait, lemme get this straight...she cheats ON YOU, and then wants YOU to give up the stang? Sounds like she's trying to make you bend over and take it up the ass there buddy.

But your response is priceless..."the stangs never gone back to it's previous owner, why would I give that up". :rlaugh:

Kinda OT, but this girl I have been seeing for a while is really into horses. I was just messing around one time and said, "the safest horses are under a hood." She got pissed lol! She started going on about how so many people die in cars and whatnot. It's not fight or anything like that, but it's just fun to mess around with her like that!

damn, i've been out for since friday and never expected to see these many posts over this topic. I GUESS I'M NOT ALONE IN THIS WORLD. thanx guys and girls for all your advice. good news is that yesterday i took her shopping, movies and dinner and IN THE STANG. we were having a nice time and over dinner a moment of silence overcame our conversation, so i took that little time frame to mention the STANG(i really need to get a nickname for my car, currently it's FERRARI, but not really digging it) so as soon as i start talking about it, she interupts and says "I know, I've been thinking a lot about it and understand how much you love your car. It's just like me with shopping. I was a little jelous(sp??) cuase you never used to work on it so much, but I can get used to it. You try to be with me as much as possible, so there's not much more I can ask." OMG :owned: , I was surprised but kept it cool and all said was "I knew you'd get it one of these days" :lock: HELL YEAH, i get to keep both. the whole converstion sounded like a soap and a little corny, but hey, she said it, not me. By the way, I'm 21 and so is she and we've been together for about 3 years, so dumping her was the last thing i wanted. I've had 3 mustangs but didn't have money to mod them and with this one I do, so she wasn't used to it. OK SO THIS POST IS LONG ENOUGH, BUT EVERYTHING CAME OUT GREAT SO WE'LL SEE WHAT ELSE WE CAN FIGHT ABOUT NOW :D
