I actually enjoyed doing it,
Took a lot of prep work, and this is my first time painting anything like this,
For my first go Im happy with the result
I actually have the other 2 to do,
It started out just re-furbishing one,
Then that one came out nice, So I had to do the other one to make the side look right,
Now I have to do the other side to make the car look right,
It really did come out well. I expecting to see some black painted rims when I read the title to this post. What was the color/brand of the paint that you used?
Please let us in on the process you did this. Did you do the center caps also? Thanks and they look great. I love pony wheels for some reason and ones in great shape really get my attention.:worship:
they looks nice, but oyu shouldn't have put the weights on the outside like that....they look better and don't ruin the rim if you use the sticky kind on the inside.....oh well
Obviously I cleaned the rims up good,
I used brake cleaner and rubbing alcohol to make sure the area was totally clean,
Then rubbed that off with water on a rag so the paint would stick to the surface,
Took off the wheel weight (yes I know there fugly but I dont have the sticky ones, If you can buy them at pepboys or something ill get them )
Taped off the tire
Taped off the Pony in the centre cap (That took a while to make a tape template)
Then sprayed and sprayed untill the can was empty leaving time for paint to get "tacky" between coats as per instructions on the back of the can,
Then I left it for a few hours and came back with the clearcoat,
I think I did 3 or 4 coats,
To dress up those drums, get some high temp black paint and spruce them up too. Looks a whole lot better than rusty stock stuff.
Total cost $4 including tax assuming that you have a wire wheel or a wire brush already.
