I plan to go black. What is the best underhood black. Flat? Semi-gloss? Gloss? Enamel? As well as what brand. Lastly, what application meathod. I have seen some sprayers that attach to the spray cans that give a wider spray. I have an air compressor, should I just get a basic spray gun?

This finish doesn't have to be perfect, not a show car but I want it to look good. I considered just waiting until I paint the car and doing it body color, but I plan on a black/red theme anyways, so black would probally look good.

I have the whole engine compartment cleaned out pretty much, as well as the fenders removed. I will probally also remove all the steering and suspension and K-member assembly as well as drill off the spot welds and remove the swaybar mount, Then I am looking to pressure wash it and then go over it with some sand paper or a wire wheel to get is scratched down. I'll mask it down where I don't want paint and then going to go over it with a black primer. Then finally some paint.

Pics would be helpfull from those who have done it. Tell me what worked for you and what you wish you had done differently. Thanks

Looks good. Was your car a different color originally, or did ford forget to paint under there, yours looked to be all grey/primer. Not exactly what I'm looking for, I am looking for the hotrod black engine bay look. I have no motor or drivetrain so this would be the time to do it. I have really put some thought into having the whole car painted, but that will be another project.

I just used a rattle can of Ceramic flat black. It looks pretty good IMO and has been durable. If you plan on keeping it clean, gloss black looks really good on my buds 69 Camero.

The car was repainted before I bought it and they had primer and overspray on everything. Took alot of work to clean it up, and I'm still working at it.
