I dropped my baby off at the muff shop at 2am this morning on my way home from work. The first night she hasnt been safely tucked into the garage.
I shopped around before I let this guy do the work. He has done work for me in the past and done a good job. For $108 he: cut the y-pipe, welded the h-pipe, cut the vibration dampner off the rightside pipe, installed the leftside pipe and mufflers. He said he was surprised at how easy everything went together and how well Ford designed the system.
The only glitch, the y-pipe is 2.25in and the h-pipe is 2.5 in. Since he welded the connection everything worked out ok, but it would have been hell had I tried to do it myself as orginaly planned. The GT h-pipe hangers and pipe matched up with the cut y-pipe perfectly.
This means we can use any GT h or x pipe on our V6s as long as we weld the connection or remove the cats and expand the 2.25in pipe to 2.5in. That gives us alot more options.
I got 3 estimates for the work, $250, $180, and $108. It pays to shop around.
My plan was to get pics with the work done and the car on the rack. No-go. When I showed up to get the car, OSHA was there. No customers in the service bay. I will run back by in a few days and get it on the rack for some pics.
Its been raining all day, the streets are wet, so no hard launches from a stop. I went out on the highway, at 70mph everything is whisper quiet, just like I wanted it. Around town there is more exhaust sound while excellerating, but at 30-40 mph it doesnt sound any louder than the 1 takeoff GT muff I had on. As soon as the roads dry out I will get a better idea of the sound increase.
All in all Im very pleased. I wanted the look of duals, I was always taught to look for hp from the tailpipe foreward, and I didnt want to sound like a 16 year old kid or a ricer.
Mission accomplished.
