How safe is paypal? I may be purchasing something from someone on craigslist which is notorious for scammers I hear. He suggested paying through paypal, but if he should not send the goods am I safe? Does paypal re-imburse me the money that I sent him?

Ozz

I think I have a problem here.

Yea, PayPal LOVES the buyers. You can even get your item, claim you never did, and unless the guy can somehow prove he delivered, you get your money back no questions asked.

Ask me how I know...

Does this include if they send you either wrong item or item not as described? Say for example you buy a TV and the add says brand new mint in box. Then the box comes with a cinder block or they send a TV with a cracked screen? And is there a way to check their seller feedback?

We sell on ebay alot. We have collected thousands of $ via paypal. I have never had a problem.

If you get screwed by a seller, there are complaint processes to follow.

I wouldnt pay for anything in advance on craigslist. Most of the time, if its seems like to good of a deal, it probably is.

Paypal does have a rating system based on the number of successful buyers that have paid the person. If they don't have a rating, then I'd be suspicious.

Oh, and ask the seller to send you an invoice from Paypal so you can check it out.

from Paypal on my account:

Your Member Information Box

Your Member Information Box gives prospective buyers the opportunity to learn a little more about you before they make payment. Buyers will see a link to your Member Information Box on the Send Money Confirmation page, and, if you sell in PayPal Shops, it will appear as a numeric link next to your name [e.g. PayPal Shop (20)].

The only money you get back through paypal is if the other person has money in thier paypal account. Otherwise it's just a claim.

If you pay with a credit card you can claim fraud through them and will get your money back from the CC company.

Well I emailed him asking him to send me an invoice. I had originally asked if he could meet up with me in person at a convenient location for the both of us. But he declined and said he would not be able to meet. I even offered extra cash. Either way if he does not want to send an invoice I think I may not even bother.

I have transfered thousands in and out of my paypal account, never had 1 problem.

I also have the Paypal money market set up which pays you interest on the balance you have in your account. Recently it has been down but still is 3.5%, last year at this time it was around 5%. Thats alot better than any regular savings will give you.

I have it linked to my checking account at my Credit Union so I can do an online transfer in or out anytime i choose.

It's pretty neat when you think about.

Ok so he sent me an invoice. But I don't see anything that lets me look at his profile. I want to know if he is verified or not too. Can someone walk me through this?

Edit: I figured it out. He has no reputation yet he has only been a member for 15 days.
