Xmas is near...I dont know about you guys but I work too damn hard....I buy myself a present every year. This year Im thinking wheels and tires for my stang. Now Im gonna go with the 17s over 18s... Ive already read over 25 threads regarding that debate ('17s or 18s')....my question is...what is the perfect size for the front and the perfect size for the rear....I wanna look mean NOT ghetto...the front tire should be flush to the fender as much as possible in the front IMO...with the best performance I can get out them of course. thanks guys.


front rim: 17x9
rear rim: 17x10.5 -deep dish-

I just got mine in the mail. 17x9 front, 17x10.5 rear Cobra R replicas. I have 245/40 front and 275/40 rear. With my Flowmaster exhaust I can just get my thumb between the exhaust and tire. Some people run 315's no problem , and some do a little modifying to fit 'em. Also Ive read that some run 275/40's front too. But those can rub at full lock. I've got that exact same sized rims sitting in my living room (Black DD Bullitts)...I'm "treating myself" to tires too and I'm going with 255/40 up front and 285/40 out back...Hope the Magnaflow CB doesn't give me crap when they go on...

And for a reference, some of the fastest cars use autos.

Now...FACTORY autos....that's a different story. But hardly worthy of sig material.

275's and 285's are WAY too small for a 10.5" wide rim. you can notice that the rim is too wide for the tire by how the tire doesnt have much of a bulge outward on the sidewall....i know a lot of guys running 275's on their stock 17x8 rims...

go with some 315/35/17 tires for the rear and 265/35/17's for the front and they will sit flush with the fender.

I know theres no bulge. The sidewall is barely wider than the rim. But if you look at rim width recommendations from tire companies, a 8" wide rim is too narrow for a 275/40. You would get some bulge in the center of the tread reducing the tire patch. I know some people lower air pressure to compensate but I wouldnt want to be driving around all the time at 20 psi. Im getting 4.10's installed in a week so Im sure these 275's I have for the rear wont last long. I'll look into maybe some 285/40 rear and 255/45 fronts then... Or I'll do some exhaust work and massaging to fit something bigger.

are those 315's gonna fit in the rear w/o any exhaust modification...? I have other things to pay for...dont really feel like going back to the local exhaust shop just yet...I have flows as listed below..

Personally white on white.

if you go 17's get 315's on the rear/255's on the front.
If you go 18's go 295's on the rear/265's on the front.
Both look great and ride nice.

Top pic(17's) was with eibach drag springs cut one coil.With no isolators.

Second pic (18's)is with a all 03 cobra suspension with the stock cobra springs cut 3/4 of a coil.The car has actually settled now and sits just about like the top pic now...
