Pertronix ignition set install

Hey Guys:

I'm thinking about purchasing and installing a PerTronix ingition set which includes: ignitor electronic ignition, Flame Thrower coil and Flame Thrower spark plug wire set.

I've been told that the kit will produce better fuel economy and more power. Is this an accurate assessment? If not, what type of improvements will I see. Also, how difficult is it to install this kit. The directions say a 20 minute install for the ignition but I've been lead a stray before.

Is this kit a worth while upgrade?

Throw in a set of good plugs,
And you have a real good Tuneup Kit.

i just have the basic pertronix thing..like 60 dollars...had it like 4 years..never a single problem..cross my fingers..i carry a set of points with me and so forth

I doubt you'll see much for horsepower increase or improved fuel economy unless your car needs a tune-up or something.

The big advantage is that there is no more points. Points wear out and require periodic adjustment.

When I swapped in my pertronix unit, I did notice that it smoothed out my idle a little.

I never noticed any "seat of the pants" increases in HP or fuel economy, but not having to set the points has been a HUGE positive. Very discreet upgrade, easy install, and hassle free. I give it 2 thumbs up...
