Planning on Procharger for 100,000 mi. stock block...what concerns??

I'm sure the tranny will need rebuilding/ replacement at some point, but the engine doesn't leak/burn oil...What concerns should I have/ problems I should expect?

BTW, the car is an 88 AOD. I have the mass air comp. and mass air from my old 89. The AOD is a rebuild w/ 40,000 miles on it. Only mods are exhaust and CAI.

I'd run a cranking compression check, and maybe a leak down on the lowest cylinder just to be certain that all is sound with cylinder pressures. If it checks out you should be fine. Me - I'd probably pull the heads and have them cleaned up, valve job done, replace the springs. Put a new set of head gaskets and some ARP bolts to help things maintain integrity under boost. Small price to pay in time/$ for the insurance you'll get.

...and a main support girdle, Fluidampner, good ignition box, big intercooler, and a big fuel pump. Even then- it'll go or it'll blow... probably both and in the order. The tranny'll need to be beefed up too, if you don't want it toasting on you. The aren't called slushboxes for nothing. This all depends on how you drive it of course...

hmmm... sounds like it really adds up. Well, the intercooler and pump come w/ the kit as I understand... Main support girdle, fluidamper...hmmm... that's alot to think about. I guess either way, I'm lookin' at repairs/replacements don the road, it'll just depend on how much I invest initially that will determine HOW FAR down the road I'm dropping more money....

I went to the local speed shop, the guy said that he'd be worried more about the bottom end primarily, then the gaskets and head work and such. So I figure if they tear it apart and tighten it up from the bottom up, it would be a good and smart investment, even if I didn't supercharge right away, no?
The other b*!ch is that I have a 91,000 mile enigine and tranny in my 89 sitting in a garage90 miles away, but I have no truck cherry picker or tools to get it out and up here, and wouldn't know where to start looking...any ideas?

would it be a good idea to just buy someones old engine for a few hundred and have them rebulid that one then just drop it in instead of having my car out of comission??

250 i got my kit from summit if it comes out dont put it back in without being re-built that would just be stupid. also since your there i would just do the main girdle cam and all that good stuff. labor all depends on how big the name is and where it is located if it is a fast and furious shop better off buying a crate motor. just my .02$

I don't think you will have a problem with the stock engine as long as the car is tuned correctly and you keep the boost to a decent level.
I have 100k miles on my stock bottom with zero problems, my car is also detuned to not put that much stress on it either. Now the AOD will not last long at all. My stock AOD lasted only 3 months behind the s-trim and that was when I was only pushing a little over 300 at the wheels on a stock longblock.

id buy a old block and rebuild that. that way if it blows or somthing goes wrong you have a spare. or you could buy a 4 banger and drop it in

jaymac - it'd be cheaper to arrange to have your other car towed up and pull the motor out of it; why would you buy another one when you've already got another one?

the only problem w/ that is that there's no rear end on the car...The driveshaft is just layin' on the floor and the back of the car is supported by tires.....doh... i parted it out awilhe back but still have the whole engine, etc...

They make these things called dollies or flat bed haulers ( ) - they can transport it anywhere you want with or without it's ability to roll on it's own. If you know the history of that motor and it's a good starting point, I'd spend money putting my hands on it before I tried to buy another motor. Plus, you can probably part out the other bits and pieces and maybe even MAKE money to invest in the buildup.
