I was driving home from work today and my trans or clutch or something started making this horrible screeching noise whenever i put the clutch in...still seems to shift fine just a horribly loud noise that is constant when the clutch is engaged...smells like something is burning but not like a burning clutch...if anyone can help please do because i have high school nationals next wknd.

Yep TOB is toast.

If you are going to do the clutch yourself, have fun!!! I have TONS of tips for the install, just shoot me a PPM. And make sure you at least resurface the flywheel ($30) or buy a new flywheel ($50 from autozone)

When I bought my Stang , Th. bearing was gone , I installed cobra clutch with new bearing , and 3 months after bearing gone again, than I rbuil tranny and installed with nex cobra clutch and bearing is gone again :D

I have put 3k miles on my car since I got it. I installed an new clutch after about 500 of those miles. Since that first install, I am know on my 3rd TOB. Either I cannot adjust them even close or they are all POS. I have heard that the ford OEM tob is actually the best one you can buy. If anybody ever figures out exactly how to adjust them, Please send me a PM.

well i have some friends that work at auto parts stores and my buddy at ramchargers hooked me up with a ford racing clutch. It was the tob, clutch, and pressure plate for 150. I would assume it has the good tob from ford?..also...any tips for installing?...i will start monday when i take it to the shop at school and hopefully be done by wednesday since high school nationals is next saturday...also...is there a break in period that i shouldnt powershift or drive it hard?

Something is not right a throwout bearing should last many years. Make sure you don't let your foot ride on the clutch in between shifts or while driving because this binds the bearing and will kill them quick.

throwout bearing makes sense for the noise but seeing as how I have never had one go bad on me...why would it smell? I was kinda figuring a leaky seal allowing oil to get on the plates but then I guess the clutch would be slipping...just curious..still learning my mechanics.
