Porterfield R4S Brake Upgrade

When you got 400 Horses, stopping power is needed.

After about 48,000 Miles, My front brake pads were ready for replacement. About 48,000 Miles ago I installed 13 inch Cobra Caliper up front with Slotted Rotors and SS lines. Now that the Stock PBR pads were done, it was time for an Upgrade!!!

After MUCH research, I decided to got with Porterfield R4S Carbon Kevlar Brake pads. From all the reviews I have been reading, these brake pads are as good as its gets on the street. Porterfield Brakes are known for being THE BEST in performance. Porterfield is located in Costa Mesa, So i hopped in the stang and took a drive to pick them up in person.

I also Ordered RotorPros.com Slotted Rotors to go with the new pads. To complete the set up I also got some ATE Super Blue brake fluid which the reviews have also been amazing on. Ordered a Motive brake bleeder from jegs to make the process easy cake. Just to make the set up even better, I got some J&M Braided brakes lines for the rear to match the front. I would have gotten MM stainless lines, but MM doesnt make SS lines from the rear of 96-98. the only company that makes Braided rear lines for these cars is J&M.

The pedal is now SUPER Stiff. Its amazing. Great braking and response. No pedal squish what so ever. The Poterfield pads grab HELLA HARD. HUGE improvement over stock. Highly recommend these pads. They do dust more than stock but oh well lol

If anyone is into tools i HIGHY recommend the Motive Power Bleed. It made bleeding my brakes a VERY quick job with no mess. One of the best tool i have ever purchased.

Handz would you mind pm'ing me what you paid for everything. I am within a week of purchasing everything like you just did. I would appreciate it man.

I will just post it. IDGAF about prices lol

Prices are ball park cause i dont have receipts by me

Porterfield Pads = $120
Rotors = $90
J&M Lines = $120 (i think)
Motive bleeder = $80

I forgot how much the fluid was.

For cobra rotors thats a pretty good deal right there. I didn't read fully that you already had the calipers so that was an expense I will have you didn't this time. I tried to go to the rotors site and I think its a .net site but they still didn't list any prices. That brake bleeder looks pretty legit though.

You gotta call rotorpros for pricing or email them. They are legit. this is my 4th time buying rotors from them.

Yeah, i bought the calipers Brand new back when they were like $180 for a pair years ago lol

Hi Guys, new here but old every where else...I got questions about the 13 cobra brakes I'm swapping into a 1961 econoline pickup, no one at ford muscle seems to know anything about....I've assembled all the parts and got the rotors and ceramic pads in a package deal off ebay....Thes pads don't cover the entire machined area of the rotor, Is this the way they are?....I comped them with a set at autozone and they seem to be the correct app., but it seems to me there's a lot of stopping power being lost here...heres some pis of my build and parts in question....5.0 450 hp. manual aod trans, 9 inch versailles 3:73 motor set back 16 inches for weight ratios...thanks now...Cliff

Yea thats the way they are. Pads won't contact whole rotor area. Which is something that i noticed when swapping to cobra brakes. I thought the same thing about how this improves stopping when it has the same rotor to pad contact area but I guess the bigger rotors help.

Just ordered from them Handz. They have been nothing but helpful so far! Can't wait to get the goodies, I just hope they get here before the planned install of next weekend.
