My car is wondering on the road and I have a steering wheel vibration at around 45-60 mph.
The steering in general is just terrible.
The passenger side wheel when jacked up has about an inch movement left and right.
The tie rod end appears to be tight.
The steering rack however is moving back and forth about 3/4 of an inch. Im thinking worn out gears?
Considering doing a cobra rack upgrade and here is what I think the process is. Any input is appreciated!
Upgrading to 03/04 cobra rack- 290 dollars
1. CJ pony parts sells an 03/04 cobra rack . Im not sure how to tell if its authentic or not?

Total cost after tax and shipping would be around 700-850 dollars
Another route aka redneck route I was thinking goes something like this.
1. Buy a 100 dollar oem replacement "sporty style" 2.25 turning rack from a part store.
2. Taking my stock steering shaft with the rag joint and making my own solid steering shaft. Buying the ujoint and have my buddy tig weld it. 45 dollars
3. alignment 100 dollars
4. Ps fluid 10 dollars
In the end would be around 300 dollars.
1.Some people are saying the taurus tie rod ends dont work right and you get bad bumpsteer
2.maybe I should do method #2 but also buy a MMS solid steering shaft instead of make my own sketchy one.
3.some people say the cobra rack makes the big difference, others say the solid steering shaft is really what makes the big difference...
If an expert could help me figure out what to do I would appreciate it!
