Price Cam install? What cam?

Hey guys i am selling my street bike this week and i want to use some of the money on cams b/c i think that will be the best gain for my car and i want lump lump. Can you guys tell me what you think install should cost and what cams would be best for me. Car is in sig and i am planning on s/c in future year or so. Thanks in advance for input

go with MPH's custom grind blower cam & valve springs. they've seen nearly 100rwhp gains with those cams on a s-trim blower. i believe that was on deadlurkers car also. install costs are going to vary from shop to shop & how they do the job, so find a shop you trust & go there

will i get good gains with blower cams before i put the blower on and were can i buy the set for a good price?

yes, you can get good gains while still n/a out of blower cams. best place to deal with anywhere IMO is www.modularpowerhouse.com

I just read an article about these and they produce good numbers NA and will work best blown.. You're hp will suffer a little between 2500 and 4000 over the Cams designed for NA use (5-10hp) but peak is the same. You will need springs, gears, etc.

i have vt stage 1 n/a cams (they don't make a stage 1 blower cam) & i'm extremely happy with them, they have great products. if i were to get something somewhere else other than MPH it would definately be from them

What else did you need to put in your car when you installed the cams? I never knew yoiu needed to have certain gears and other things..

30 is the average I've heard, maybe another 10 with a good tune. What is even better is that the power won't fall as much above 5500.. The article said the hp at 6k is about 45 over stock..

It will make some pretty good power N/A. But when you say, no difference in peak, it depends on which other cam you are talking about. Those 270s are darn near a blowercam profile due to their 113LCA so there wouldnt be much difference either way with those. Now if he went with any of VTs N/A cams he would get more hp all around while N/A, but he would seriously suffer compared to a blower profile when he went blown. If your getting blown soon, you can either get VT stg 2 blower cams OR comp 270s. Your choice, but VT has an amazing track record and as far as I know, 0 problems with PTV contact like some of the comp 270s have had. IMHO VT ALL the way. BTW I am getting VT stg 1 N/A cams.
Cams will run 580ish and 100+ for springs....install should be around 300-400 I think.

you don't HAVE to have them, but to take full advantage of the performance potential with them you do need the rear end gears. i already had 4.10's so i was set.

as far as the install with my cams, i didn't need anything. they are a mild cam so i didn't need to replace my valve springs or anything, they were a direct replacement

the installs vary so much. you could maybe get someone to install cams & springs for that, but be preparred for closer to a grand for a cams & springs install

Most with VT stg 1s gain 20HP untuned, 30-33RWHP tuned. Comps will be less, and any blower profile will be less. VT stg 2s are good for another 10ish HP over stg 1s.

Yeah.. I was just comparing Comp' 262's vs the 270's. More specifically, meaning that the peak HP before he adds the blower should be similar for both cams.

I had Comp XE270AH cams in my '03 GT. I don't know what the exact gain was, but with just cams, CAI, headers, plenum, TB, and pullies I put down 290rwhp/301tq. With the cams, you should install good valvesprings from Comp Cams. If you are going with a blower down the road, try the XE270AHs from Comp or the MPH cams. If you are staying N/A, I would highly suggest the VT Stage II cams. There have been PTV issues with the Comps and quite a few guys on Modular Depot swapped their Comps for VTs for that reason amongst others.

As for gears, you don't have to have them, but my car didn't really have enough gear with the 3.73s. It would have loved a set of 4.10 or 4.30s to keep the car in the sweet part of the power band at the track. Even at that, I still got a respectable 12.90@105 with a 1.89 60ft. The car still had more in it, but to have gotten the full potential out of it, another gear change was needed.

IF you go with the vt stage 1 N/A cams, does it affect in anyway daily driver reliability of the car. Or does it in anyway change anything that it wouldnt be practical anymore for a daily driver? I want to get these for my 02 but dont want any side effects that make it worse.
