I have a buddy with a 97' 4.6 and a procharger p1sc, off road h-pipe, cat back system, 3.73 gears. He was asking me what i thought about ibstalling headers on it. He bought the car this way and has done nothing to it himself. I have no 4.6 experience as i'm a 5.0 guy. What kind of power increase can he expect and how hard is the install? His dad has a car lift in his barn and i have all the tools for this stuff, so that wont be any problems. Just wondering what i'm getting into and if it's worth putting headers on. He was pretty mad at his 14 sec passes at the track and i thought this would help dramatically as the car seems pretty corked up to me when i drove it. Thanks guys!

I was thinking at least 30, as that seems to be the only cork on the exhaust. I don't know what you guys do for intake mods if any. Any tips guys? That car should run better than a mid 14. Granted he's not a dragracer, his reaction times shouldnt have to be perfect for at least a low 13 sec pass.

shorty's are worth about 4-5hp on a NA gt so maybe 15-20 on a blown car. Longtubes work much better on our cars..some gain 15-20hp on NA cars with them.

Big question? does he still have the stock intake on his car? if so that is the big restriction on his car. He can upgrade to the PI version and gain a good 40-50hp with this swap. As bad as it sounds...aa stock 96-98 with a blower isn't that fast of a car! Its sad, but the stock intake really sucks! If he has money tell him to upgrade to a ford racing intake or a P51 or Reichard racing intake. They will make HUGE differences compared to his intake.

Just for your info, reaction times don't effect ET's. The timer doesn't start until you roll forward through the beams. :)

LOL, i'm a newbie to the strip myself, i forgot about that. I've been so worried about gettin my own car together i haven't been paying much attention to actually racing it.

To my knowledge the intake is stock. I dont know about the t-body or mass air meter, assuming those need to be upgraded just like on the older 5.0s. Probably has whatever was needed to do the swap. Like i said i know little to none about any of the post 93 cars. I'll look those intakes up and see what they cost, Maybe i can get him to do that or both if it will net him some good gains. I thought the 97 had a decent intake so i assumed the headers were the main prob, but now he has options at least. After i drove it i just thought it should be faster. another buddys blown 93 would have killed it if they had raced.

do a search on here for NPI intakes(96-98) and PI intakes (99-04) and read up...most of us 96-98 guys swap out to the updated version of the 99 up cars. It really is worth it.!!! The aftermarket intakes run 1200 and up...not cheap like a 5.0 is it? They do gain a nice amount of power on supercharged cars. By comparison I'm willing to say a Fox Lake P-51 intake would gain up to 60HP over the stock NPI intake..http://foxlakeracing.com/index.php?...ge&PHPSESSID=f9f35e026ffbcef6aeca9d73382c73e6 with longtubes adding another 30-40 hp..so he could possibly add upwards of 100hp with a new intake and longtubes on that car.
