Procharger Advice

Okay, I know there have been very similar threads posted, but I need help. I have a 2004 Mustang GT, Im looking to supercharge in in a few months when I get back from Iraq, however I'm a total virgin to the world of boost and air to fuel ratios. Ive decided between the roush supercharger and the procharger. Which one would anyone advise?

Now if I go with the procharger, People are telling me I need to use the Lightning MAF with diablos MAFIA tuner accessory. I think, but Im not sure if the kit comes with the 42 lb injectors. From what I've read on here it seems I need to buy a better fuel pump. I already have a diablo sport predator tuner, and when everything is installed I plan on driving the 3 hrs to kansas city to have a dyno and tuned at pro charger. The only thing Im really unsure about is upgrading to forged guts in the engine block. Is this abo:taco:ley neccessary at 10 lbs boost.

Like I said Im new to all of this, so If someone could tell me if Im on the right track or not, or has any suggestions, Id appreciate it.

your best bet would really be to buy a Mongoose Paxton kit from Modular Power House. go to their site...www.modularpowerhouse.com and look at the kit. that should get you started real nice. Im not a big fan of procharger. they actually have a bung in the inlet pipe for the IAT sensor, which ABSOLUTELY MUST be put AFTER the s/c, or else your car will think its getting alot cooler air than it is, and that leads to a blown motor. Trust me. There were two cars sitting at Dynospeed that just came in for a dyno, and on the first run they threw rods through the block.

But if you have any other questions, feel free to post. I have been through alot of it, and can tell you what you will need to upgrade.

I'm looking at prochargers too, trying to find a good used kit. If not, might be going with a prefab vortech kit like the mongoose or a kit from this other guy I ordered my gears from. Said he could meet or beat the mongoose price.

If you want a twin screw, the Saleen stg IV kit is only like 4500 for everything you need. Not sure if they still stock it or not though.

do the procharger right and you should have no problem. its like n2o you see horror stories but if your like me who took all the right precautions then youll be fine. ive been spraying a 100shot for about 3 years and 60,000 miles. no problems at all. im planning a procharger on my cobra next year

thanks everyone, I think Im gonna end up goin with the procharger, though Im still considering the options. Is there anyone out there who has done work with the P1SC system that may have any advice. Also, Has anyone ever worked with sean hyland motorsports? Just curious to hear someone elses opinion on them

while cool air will tell the motor it can run more timing advance, if they had predetonation/knock the timing should have been retarded automatically by the ecu detecting the knock. im sorry, but the 2* of timing difference between the ecu seeing cool air or hotter air would not directly lead to blowing motors, bad tuning/tuners would.

to the original poster - i would go procharger. it has more headroom when you have more mods under your belt and want to run more boost, and its about 2/3 the price of the Roush kit and performs just as good.

the only things i have heard about the procharger is problems with the bracket they send, and the two with blown motors were running prochargers simply because they tell you to install it totally wrong. Also i have heard good and bad things about SHM. if tommustang sees this thread he will tell you to stay far far away, but they are pretty well known, and i think you will be fine using them.

i dont understand how totally wrong is, did they install it backwards and it was sucking air in through the motor(which would be pretty ****ing hilarious)?

im just saying though, if youre debating roush vs procharger, id go with teh pro.

on the nice little intake pipe going to the supercharger, procharger has designed a spot for the IAT sensor This is not right. The intake air temps could be 60 degrees coming into the supercharger, and 120 going into the motor if its not intercooled, this is a big difference and to a stock internals motor, the as you call it "slight" difference will blow the motor. Why rely on knock sensors to retard timing when you could install it right and know that your motor wont spit a rod out the side.

Don't overfill the head unit. 99.9% of the problems associated with "leaking seals" is because the owner overfilled the blower.

That's a mixed bag of nuts on that one. I've heard a couple of guys who will swear by them, but the majority of what I've heard is negative. That being said, most of the negative you hear is often not from first person experience. It always happened to "a friend of a friend". People who have no experience with the company or products are welcome to their opinion based on what they've heard, but when they talk about it as though it's based on first hand experience (when in reality, most of the nay sayers have never even visited SHM's web site, never mind dealt with them). So take the negative opinions with a grain of salt.

This shouldnt be a problem with an intercooler though should it

The Procharger comes with a focus SVT fuel pump, has anyone found this to be suffient enough

I dunno about your question. just dont take any chances and make sure that it is about 8-12 inches in front of the TB. I believe the focus fuel pump is pretty suffecient. Im running the ford GT fuel pump, but good luck finding one :) lol. gotta be different i guess.

I'm getting a procharger soon and this is what you need to know, the base kit does not include 42 lb injectors, fuel pump, or MAF. You have to buy the injectors, although procharger says you dont need a fuel pump or MAF. I heard you need a fuel pump for custom tuning and that the stock meter pegs out around 5k rpm. You can get a lightning MAF, but you will need to calibrate it. Pro M sells blow through 80mm MAFs already calibrated for prochargers with 42lb injectors.

If you go with stage 2 procharger, youll need a 3 core intercooler, MAF, and fuel pump, which are included in stage 2 kits.

5.0 mustang magazine installed a procharger with the predator and MAF.ia in their June '06 issue FYI.

As for running 10lbs of boost on stock internals, it's iffy. You'll need a really good tuner. There's a stock GT running on 16psi here, tuned by Ed Clark.
