That is a nice steal!!! After I had 6 good months into my car I found a Mach 1 at the same auctions I bought my GT from. It went for 3,500. I was a little upset, because for 1,500 more I could have had a Mach 1.

I can't think like that, because it took me 9 months to find my donor car. I past up others before it because they were missing crutial parts needed to get the swap done. I have been in this business for 11 years, and I live by this saying my Dad taught me.

"If you wait long enough, there will always be something better that will come along". My Dad has been right everytime. And I did wait to purchase my 01 GT I found, but sure enough down the line came that Mach 1..... DOHC engine with 40 more HP and more torque. Cooler seats, cooler gauge cluster, better brakes...oh well...next time!!

If you really want to do this swap....make sure you have a lot of free time, and a LOT OF SPACE!!! There are many situations I ran into, and I though to myself...do I really want to continue this project? But I walked a way from it for about 5 weeks and came back with even more motivation and determination to finish it.

This is an incredible build and an overwhelming amount of work! I remember stumbling across the first "Hackjob" posts and have been looking forward to them since! I'd definetely do a OHC motor of some sort in my notch when my motor goes kaput. GL on the last few stages!

Thank you very much! When the car is done....I will make one BIG thread with all my PICS from start to finish. It has been a lot of work. I spent hours over two nights just soldering those wires, and making sure they won't rub or catch the window regulator when the glass goes up and down. etc....

How much time would you have saved and stress would have been avoided if you started project hack job with a clean, straight fox? Looks like you've got a lot invested in the body work time wise. That be be a better approach for us "non professionals".

You are absolutley right! The key is to start with an 86+. A fuel injected Mustang would be easier than a 79-85. I had to cut a ton of holes here and there for lines/wires/air cleaner tube/wash bottle....holes in firewall for wiring harness....etc.

It looks like the total time of the car, with many long breaks is gonna be 10/10.5 months. Say I started this project with my 91 notch....body and paint is nice already....I would have still had some mods to the firewall and gas tank area....but that is it.....I estimate about 2-3 months total. Less....if you work on it everyday....which I did not do. I took a 2 month lay off once....from being disgusted.

as always, hack job is coming along nicely. good job! its funny to think that when you first started this swap, everyone was giving you crap about "stealing the cars identity" with the aero conversion, hence the name "HACK JOB", and now everyone is all for it! you definitely shut up all the haters! keep it up man!

Thanks cenok! You have a good memory. There were quite a few haters, but you and everybody else that has posted in my threads since then have been supportive and encouraging. When people ask me what year the car is, I always have to think about it. I don't even remember the car as an 81 4-eyed Mustang. I just remember it as it sat, and I envisioned what I wanted it to look like and here it almost is.

S&B--Watch what you say about 4 eyes. I doubt those guys come into my threads, but my first progress thread got closed after 6-7 pages of arguing. I'm glad they haven't posted anyways, and it's funny because I haven't seen any of them posting in any thread on SN period.

Anyways....thanks guys.

MINI---UPDATE. I removed the old window run channels tonight, sand and painted the door framing, mirrors, and roof rail molding flat black. I used a satin-gloss clear over the roof moldings, but I got ANOTHER defective can of SEM clear. I am pist...I now have to repaint those again because the clear blotted up. SEM usually has great spray cans, but not these last two. I need a good can to do my quarter glasses this weekend. If you don't clear them, the paint bubbles slightly due to moisture. Be on the look out this weekend for another mini thread.

Well if they come after me Ill just show them my 81 t top notch with the aero nose and if they want they can see the video of me running over the old front clip with my MONSTER TRUCK

everyone has different likes, I dont like when someone trys to force issues. A fox mustang is a glorified lego project at any time you can snap a piece on or off at your liking.

So if those nay sayers are so mad then they should buy your car off you for 40k and put the 4 eyes back on.

unless you run them over with big foot !!

There wasn't much left to my 81 front cover, I still have it. I did sell my rear cover to a dude on cragslist for 75 dollars. He told me he has been looking for one for a year. I guess maybe I'll try and sell my torn 81 front cover and hood. I did well on many other items from the car. About 500 bucks worth. Still got a lot left too.

05+ wheels, 81 Hack Job...PICS...Mustang 5L5...you will like

I put some 2005 Mustang GT 17X8 wheels on my fox. These wheels have 235-55-R17 tires...ignore the tire and pay attention to the +45mm offset vs. my 17X8 Bullit wheels that have a +30mm offset.

First pic on the front. These wheels will clear the strut on a fox using 96-04 spindles. They will clear 94-95 spindles if you use a spacer. They are very close to the strut with the 96-04 spindles.

These will straighten out when the car is rolled forward...I just set it down.

The rear wheels with the +45mm offset fits perfectly with the 2001 axle which is 1-1/2" longer on each side than Fox bodies axle, and 3/4" longer on each side than SN95 axles. If you have SN95 axles picture these wheels inward 3/4". Again....pay no attention to the tire, if I use S197+ wheels, I will be using 245-45's.

Here is two last pics. This shows the 17X8 Bullit wheels +30mm offset on the passenger rear. This also shows the 17X8 S197 wheels +45mm offset on the drivers rear.

Now............what do you guys think about this exact wheel on my car? I'm not digging the look of this particular 05+ wheel. The tire doesn't help my decision either, but I am not dismounting it because they are a friend of a friend's wheels. However, I am digging this offset, so I might go 05+ Bullit wheels, or the 17X9 Pony R's 17X9 with the 45mm offset.

I might buy them anyways because he only wants 200 bucks for 4 wheels with tires. I could flip them easily.

:flag:

Thats a pretty damn good fit. As for the wheels themselves, I kinda like them...but I don't know if I like them enough.

It's definitely a different look for a fox....but I'm just not sure. $200 for the whole set + tires is a great deal though.
