i know that it is always recomended to check piston to valve clearance and every engine is different, but i was wondering if use of a f cam requires the stock pistons to be cut?

ok well i personaly would check the pvc but i know for sure that a tfs 1 cam speced with 499/51 lift 221/225 dur@50 with 1.7 clear with no prob so you shoud be ok with f cam i would spin it over by hand befor starting it just to make sure nothing is binding up anywhere

Currently I am running an F-cam with stock HO pistons (4 valve reliefs) and E7 heads with 1.94/1.60 valves. With 1.6 rockers I have no clearance issues. have fun!

I have the F cam and edelbrock performer 5.0 heads and no clearance issues. Althought I kick myself for going with an alfabet cam, so many better choices out there.

I'll agree that you should be just fine w/ that cam as far as clearance, but make sure that you're not using the original valve springs w/ the F-cam's lift. The clearance issues are a little different if the valves are hanging open when they shouldn't because the springs are worn out/inadequate. Crane makes a nice upgraded spring kit for the E7's that don't require any machine work if you're still on the stockers.

actually 2 heavy of a spring is as bad as 2 light of a spring. My bro inlaws 440 big block mopar has very heavy springs and he ate the lobes off his cam.

Have the springs checked to make sure they're still good. Then you should shim them to the correct seat pressure for your cam.
