Question about replacing the parking brake cable

On my 89 GT the parking brake does not work at all. The previous owner told me the cable broke. I want to replace the cable and I was wondering do I need just one cable for both sides?

If the Handbrake does not work at all it sounds more like the Center Cable Broke that is attached to your Handle.

replacing the center cable is a major pain in the ass, but not having a ebrake when you need it would be worse

When I pull up on the parking brake handle, it just goes up very easily with no drag at all., so this center cable ties in with the parking brake cable?

Yes, the Center cable goes through the floor and has an Equalizer Bar on the end of it, the left and right side Cables hook up to the EQ Bar.

sounds like we have the same problem. do you have to take the center console out? what else is involved in replacing it?
