You better hope your buddy isnt on ls1tech.com doing the same thing your doing. Cause if he just does some exhaust work, gears, and a cam swap it dont matter if you have nitrous, it's game over for the mustang. ls1's are quick from the factory, but once you start throwing parts on them they are down right sick! One thing he will have a problem with is if he starts modding it he will break those half shafts in the rear, the GTO's have a IRS in the rear. But a friend of mine had a 05 gt auto and he put underdrive pullies, C&L cold air intake, 4.10 gears, i think the plates are called IARC plates maybe? (they are underneath in intake and eleminate the little butterflies that are on it from the factory), and had the car custom tuned with a SCT tuner and that car would run 10.50's in the 1000 ft at 98mph, stock ls1 GTO's will run around 11.2's in the 1000 ft. GTO's are just to heavy. No offense, but if the GTO get's modded, it will be Pontiac FTW!

Yeah, he's on ls1gto.com. He just put dual Flowmaster 10 series that sound really good, and he said that he'll leave the IRS alone, some guy at a local shop is supposed to custom tune it for him for $150 so far, thanx for the info.

For some reason i thought u said ur car was an 05. That's why i said something about my buddies 05. If you will look at my sig and look at my parts, i can dominate a ls1 GTO in my 99 GT 5-speed. If u want a nitrous kit i have a complete NOS wet kit for sale for $350. It has everything you need!

As long as he stays away from a full exhaust system, stall, or cam you should be able to put up a fight.

Although a tune does do alot for any LS series GM, I wouldn't throw the white flag up yet...

PICS PLZ!

don't base your mods on beating some other guy lol try and aim for mods that will make your car feel like its making progress up the HP slope haha more SOTP factor = happier mustang driver. What's gonna suck is if you blow the engine with the NOS and you just got the car.

i think a nicely modded and sophisticated stang with a respectable bolt-on list and suspension upgrades is way more impressive than a stock gto

just my 2 cents.

but to answer your actual question, NOS is your best bet, or any type of forced induction for that matter

Yeah I completely understand where your coming from. Here's a few pix when I got it.

I would normally be all over that deal, but I just bought the car, and the holidays are really taking a toll on my funds right now....But after the new year, I'll begin with the mods on the car, and hopefully I can get it!!

really, there are no quick mods to beat him. it takes a careful program of parts, which do not include very much of your current setup to beat him if he bolts-on and practices.

you have a weight advantage. i recommend tubular everything, lose all the weight you feel comfortable with. there's no reason you cant get the 2900lb mark without gutting itdriver's seat replacement, rear seat delete, tubular everything, dog-bone gone, quad-shocks gone, etc.

gear the hell out of it. stall converter. autos are best. easy to race fast.

full bolt-ons and cams.

290rwhp/2900lbs > 350rwhp/3700lbs. 3700 lbs is harder to get moving than 2900ish.

get traction with suspension/tires, and 60' from gears/converter.

he and many other GTO's will not handle you.

stick a 3v in it and goodbye. so far the fastest 4.6 3v bolt-on all motor is in the 11's.

most bolt on GTO's are mid to high 12 second cars. Add a set of drag radials, and a 100 shot.

Yeah i guess that would be a good idea if you were gonna build a car to go run with Tim Lynch.
Or if you want to keep all of your stock interior pieces and not spend thousands upon thousands of dollars doing weigh reductions that gain 2 tenth's of a second, you can put a 100 shot on it, put some drag radials, and put 4.10's in your car. It will shock you how much of a diffrence those 3 mods would make. Dont get me wrong, all tubular items is a advantage but you dont have so much power right now that you are going to have traction problems if you put drag radials on it. The only tubular items that u would need anytime soon that would be reasonable would be upper and lower rear control arms.

A ls1 goat with an inexperienced driver is an easy task for a 5 speed car. AN auto car....different story. First things first, get a tuner. You need to firm up and quicken ur shifter on the auto. A stall would be reconmended but they are not cheap. Rear lca's and some sticky tires... You'll be close. Do the normal bolt ons, then ur ahead. Spring for long tube headers with full exhaust, it'll screm. Thats all with a converter, do that and it will be one fun car! Good luck. Honesly, if ur not experienced with n2o, stay away from it unless u have an trusted person to learn from. Seen too many noobs give it a whirl and get burnt, litterally.

I,ve seen many GTO's at the local 1/8 th running low 9's and high 8's. There was one running nitrous, not sure what shot, but the best I ever seen he get was a 8.3, and he was running MT drag radials. Nitrous and gears being the best way to smoke your buddy. Or maybe full bolt-ons with a stall converter, with either get some good tires and try to stay away from nittos, as I think they suck at the track, but they are a good street tire.

Um no....not real world anyways. I have buddies with an 05 6SPD and an 06 auto....thats right the LS2 GTOs.

Both run low 13s...I got a pass in the 06 auto and pulled a 13.3ish @ 105...the M6 trapped 106-107 and 13.2 or so. And they are both modded.

M6 has catback, canned tune, and an air filter.

Auto has FULL exhaust, dyno tune, and an intake....pulls hard and shifts even harder...I enjoyed making a pass in it!

ANYWAYS...point is, im sure people can run 12s with them with the right hookup...but real world is often different. Atleast at my track and from what they run down here And dont forget an LS1 GTO is slow by comparison...

I say the OP just needs, plenum, K&N filter, O/R X pipe, 3.73 gears, and a tune...and he would run right with that LS1 GTO no prob.

Sorry, forgot the car is stock

Don't know about your tracks in Bastrop I'm guessing Navasota or SAR, but in Houston, you wont find many, if any 13 second lsx cars at HRP. Got it handed to me in the Z at HRP last week by an ls2 GTO. Headers, lid, pulley, catback, tune, he ran a 12.39 to my 12.69.

Quite a few GTO's have gone 12's in Houston, with bolt ons and the stock heads/cam. ls2 cars usually trap only 1-2mph faster.

something was right with that ls2 goat if it was running 13.2's and it's modded...that's what my car will run and i would get smoked by a ls2 goat. There is one at our local 1000 ft track that runs 9.4's in the 1000 ft and 7.3's in the 1/8th. It has a cam, heads, full exhaust and tuned in an automatic.

every track is different. i run .2 to .5 slower at union hill with similar conditions and good traction than clarksville speedway.

Am I the only one seeing this? That car is capable of mid to low 12's. That what i trap with nitrous on and i run consistant 12.0.

Yea Houston is the fastest track in the nation right now if im not mistaken. I always go for fun ford weekend....every year. Ill be running the cobra down there this next year...on their friday night portion after FFW shuts down and its back to HRP. If you roll down there, it would be fun to line up with you

But yea, down here we all go to SAR. Im not sure whats up...but the stock GTOs struggle to hit the 13s. Heck my dads 01 lightning is running right with them. A little 3# lower pulley, Cone filter, and a tune.....and it clicks off 13.1s Darn quick little truck for being next to stock.
But yea I never have considered SAR a FAST track....they generally dont do a good job with track prep, and thats where the ET comes in...most of us cant hook very well.
