Am I the only one seeing this? That car is capable of mid to low 12's. That what i trap with nitrous on and i run consistant 12.0.

The difference here is we roll down to track track, exactly how we drive our cars on the street. We are not rolling on slicks and skinnys....drive the cars there and then start having fun.
Like I said...people can run 12s with them, but they need the hookup....generally when you see these times posted, its after alot of passes of perfecting the launch on a good track.

Like HRP for instance, that track hooks like a mad man....back several years ago I pulled a 1.90 60' on bald 285 kumhos, with my bolton GT, ran a 13.5 @ 100 in a 20MPH head wind lol....those things were ice on the street but that track just plain rocks.

Yea Houston is the fastest track in the nation right now if im not mistaken. I always go for fun ford weekend....every year. Ill be running the cobra down there this next year...on their friday night portion after FFW shuts down and its back to HRP. If you roll down there, it would be fun to line up with you

But yea, down here we all go to SAR. Im not sure whats up...but the stock GTOs struggle to hit the 13s. Heck my dads 01 lightning is running right with them. A little 3# lower pulley, Cone filter, and a tune.....and it clicks off 13.1s Darn quick little truck for being next to stock.
But yea I never have considered SAR a FAST track....they generally dont do a good job with track prep, and thats where the ET comes in...most of us cant hook very well.

Sounds good, man! I have never been able to run on Fridays at FFW because of my work schedule. HRP, and HMP(only on sundays) do a good job running on the prep.

I've made quite a few passes at SAR, and I have been very disappointed. Right now, the Z is hurt, 3rd was hurt, but I have more problems. My car is only trapping 110mph in good weather. I have either a bad clutch, or need new valve springs and possibly more. Should be adding a vararam, LT's, and cam soon though, and a new clutch.

We should all do a meet in Sealy at Lone Star in the spring. Good track, and they prep it decently. Navasota is also an option.

To beat an LS1 GTO, I think you would be fine w/ full boltons, and some suspension, gears, and tires. This guy sounds new to GTOs so it will take a bit to get driving them down. You said that you never backed down from a race and you got the stang recently. What car did you come from??? Do you have track experience. I think driver mod will be a big advantage too. Spray would def. help out but, I think that a well modded car would do fine w/ a good driver from a dig.

Oh man sorry to hear that So 3rd is grinding or popping out of gear?
And yes...110 is definitely low for a C5 Z....if 3rd is out, the previous owner probably couldnt drive worth a crap and also burned up the clutch.

So as I was driving to my moms house in Piedras Negras Coahuila... I see some eyes looking at me in the back pacing me ... Well I slow down let the mexican traffic go by , and he pulls up next to me it was a Ws6 trans am .. The dude pulled up about a car in front of me and down shifted and Shiet was loud , then as soon as he heared me down shift(still a car ahead of me) he hits it ... so there I go playing catch up but I just pass him like nothing ... got him by like 3 or 4 cars .... This was my first Ls1 kill woot woot!!!!

LT-1 & LS-1 ( 1993-2002 camaro & Trans am)= My tail lights. I've been racing stangs since 1994 & lost one time to an LT-1 car. I was stupid enough to try & race a full bolt on formula with my 1990 auto 3.08 gear GT. These races were N/A cars with bolt-ons only. No nos/sc's. Fox & SN95's

Ok - I am confused !

kevinj84 said:
Yeah it seems NOS is the only way to go. I was gonna go with the," If you can't beat em', join em" idea and buy a 99' TransAm Firehawk off one of my friends mom, but i'm not really into the small space, baby rear seats ...

I have driven my co-workers '01 GT w/ a 5 speed here recently - up to 45 minutes at a pop. I cannot get the seat low enough to have enough headroom not to be at a somewhat crouch or staring eye to eye w/ the sun visor.

My daily ride is my SS , so I am lost w/ the "small space & baby rear seats " comment - ?

Other than that, it's a fun car, and sounds really nice from the inside when you are jammin' on it !

Please elucidate - thanks !

are you talking with your current car, or your past fox body? No way your 4.6 with 70-90hp less than a stock ls1 is going keep up.

I've had 3 F-bods 1 LT1 & 2 3.8 v6's (95-98)in the past, and you can see the 00' firebird convertible in the background of my picture that I drive cuz my girl always wants to drive the stang anyways, I have plenty of headroom in the stang and the firebird.

The problems are trying to fit 2 adults in the backseat of an F-Bod? I had to in an emergency and it was terrible, not that bad in the stang. The F-Body's also have that big Catalytic Converter hump on the passenger side, hate it ....

All in all, I'm still considering the Firehawk because of hp,rarity and the SLP appearance package, I drove it and i'll admit it was a beast (does the dash and keeps goin) overall fun car, just unsure if i wanna get rid of the stang project this soon when i havent even started on it.

Almost all of the past races were with my old fox's 88GT & 91lx. I work with 2 guys & 1 has a 2000 lS1 camaro 6spd 3.42 gears with K&N & exhaust. And the other has an 05 GTO with K&N & exhaust. I out ran them both thru the quarter. After the quarter its all down hill for the stang. I usually pull out about 1-2 car lengths and hold that thru the quarter. The old 96 don't do to bad.

Use the levers on the left and the buttons on the front. I know of 350 pound 6'4 guy who can sit in a mustang and have head room..

an auto 04 gto is a dog....honestly he would probably barely beat you now.

My brothers auto 2000 with 4.10s, and other misc. bolt ons can beat his friends 04 gto from a dig...from a roll the ls1 and the extra ponys will get you.

Nitrous would be the easiest way...but with gears/bolt ons/ tune you should be able to pull from a dig.

The weight of those cars kills them.

Well, there is 1 of 2 things that are true about this. Either you are a pretty good driver and the guys that drive the F-Body's are horrible at driving, or you are BSing about this. Especially saying you can outrun one threw the quarter, the LS1 car's really come alive about 500 ft out. A trans am ram air WS6 will run 10.7's STOCK in the 1000ft ( the reason im saying 1000 ft is because that's what our local track is) and a STOCK 99-04 mustang GT will run 11.30's in the 1000ft. Im not trying to sound rude or sound like a douche but i dont see you outrunning a trans am in the quarter with the mods you have posted.

the man speaks the truth , they are bit overrated because of the all mighty ls1 350 hp engine , personally raced few when was stock and they are either dead even or slightly slower than a auto mustang gt , raced few of them again after cams/tune and id put a good train length on a stock one , they can be bit out of your league if he has any cams/heads work and if he can drive any other work hardly matter , they struggle to keep up with a decent driven stock 05 , so i think people tend to over rate them stock.

I have no need for BSing. I'm sorry to hear that most of you stang owner's are having problems out running LS-1 cars. I out run them in the 60'. Whatever I pull them out of the hole it pretty much stays there. Like I said above, after the quarter it's a totally different ball game. When the local tracks open back up in a few months, I'll post some video's of some races. There are a few guys on this sight that live close by & can be a witness to these races.

Hey like i said, it sounds like you are a pretty good driver but u have just ran into LS1 drivers that arent good. Because if u find a LS1 driver that is good, it will be game over for u, i promise. So congrads on bein a good driver, but i for sure wouldnt try and find any LS based car that has a good driver behind it.
