Backfill with dirt. I think they shore the sides with concrete block. Then pour a slab on top. My other concern is the carport has a crack in it. The head dude bout to get a phone call. Will the area under this be supported differently?? Inquiring minds want to know........
I think we're screwed with way. They are more likely to take everything off of the first floor joists or slab and spread it halfway across the county, or sometimes the state. Or they cause tree and roof damage.
To answer the Kartheif's question, yes, they poured new footings but just on the perimeter. Not sure if they do so on the rest. I forgot to ask when the project manager was here. They have rebar at the corners they they will tie in with concrete columns.

This the block they will use to close it all in. Things are going by slowly now so they will probably be in the yard a month. I'm a little worried about the power lines. The peak is less than 18 feet from the top power lines. That is against code. We shall see.

Some other worries. My carport cracked. I did address this. He is supposed to send the engineer out to take a look. Also, on my porch, the anchors have rusted away. Will probably have to have them replaced.

That "faced" block is twice the cost of smooth.... I like the look of it....
My wife wants standard brick. She doesn't understand the extra cost. She gets mad when I say we can't afford it. WomenThat "faced" block is twice the cost of smooth.... I like the look of it....
They are almost finished blocking in the perimeter. The porch post still need to be finished along with the second carport support posts. I need to get with them to determine how that will be done. I think next is the permanent steps and then the driveway to the carport last.

The door in the foreground is the backdoor of my dad's place. It's a mother in-law apt we had built attached to the main house. We are putting a walkway about 4 or 5 feet wide from that door to the carport. I think we have decided to make it the length of the carport so we will have a bbq deck. That came out alot better than I thought it would when you first started out with this project.... I like how you got a free loading dock out of it, where the drive under carport used to be.
Eventually there will be a ramp to the carport. Or I get Luke to levitate my vehicles.I like how you got a free loading dock out of it, where the drive under carport used to be.
No crew has been out here in two weeks soI called the contractor Friday to ask when he expected them to be back. He said he thought they were supposed to be here they day before so he was going to check with the sub and call me back. I never got a call but bright and early Saturday morning they are under the house with a hammer drill waking up the whole house. Well played, Mr Contractor Man.
They have Hispanic Amish? I will say ol Pedrodiah can raise a house pretty dang good. Its those Amish boys again... Always causing problems.......
So they are finally back. While they still have block work to finish, a crew showed this morning to work on the driveway. The contractor is supposed to be here today as well. He was out with COVID for a while. Not much I can say for him is he basically pays lip service to any issues I've had in the past but he did get a crew here when I told him they have only been here 4 hours in the last 3 weeks. The crew that showed up a week ago last Saturday left after lunch.
Finally more progress. Proper steps to the front door and new railing for the porch. I really didn't want railing but it's over 3 feet off the ground so it's required. Prepping the driveway for the incline. My guess is the had to dig a footing for support. Also the deck/walkway from my dad's place to our carport so he doesn't have to climb steps.
