I always love when I tell them its for a 93 mustang. Then they ask is that a cobra? Yea, like there are lots of cobras out there. I would think that if I had a Cobra, I would say; Its for a 93 Mustang Cobra. Since I would be so proud to have one
i got the same thing yesterday. AZ, of course. i asked about a distributor for an
"88 Mustang GT." (don't have the car yet, but i'd just looked at it, and that's what it needed. turned out that later in the day, the guy sold it right out from under me. thanks alot fella.) anyway. now, anyone with any kind of knowledge about the shape of the earth knows that "GT" mean 8cyl. or so i thought. the guy shocked me when he replied, "4cyl or V8?" i stared at the wall before it hit me that he'd actually asked that. so, still a little bewildered, i responded "V8." and if the first question wasn't enough for me to percieve this guy as little more than a tall pile of beef, he then asked, "2.3....?" and looked at me, waiting for my guidence in his ever so taxing data entry evolution. i said nothing with my mouth, but the look on my face must have been enough to make him feel like enough of an idiot that he quickly returned his gaze to the monitor and inputed the right engine in his little picture box machine. he finally got it all figured out, quoted me the price and i was on my merry way.
That is why I quit going to Autozone. They once told me my 2001 Mustang GT 2V motor was a 4.3L, not a 4.6L. I was like really...hmmmmm as far as I know Mustangs have had a 4.6L since 1996. Nope....it's a 4.3L......Okay buddy...I left.

It seems most people still dont know that the newer Mustangs are 4.6, you tell them that the 5.0 went out in '95 and they're shocked.
I had a guy that looked at a New Edge GT and said, "That probably has a 351 Cleaveland in it."

Even if you bring in a part number you can still get questioned. I shredded a belt but managed to get the part number off the old one. I walked in and gave him the part number and his immediate reaction was "what type of car is this for?" then the usual line of questioning ensued... The sad part was I actually knew where it was located behind the counter as i'd worked there years ago...

In 2009, go in to Autozone and ask for a 2009 F150 gas cap. That will really blow their mind...

A 5.0 isnt really a 5.0 they rounded up.
If my math is correct there are 61.0237 cubic inches to a liter.
So 302/61.0237 =4.9488969039897613550145271427331

When I sold parts we would call the competitors and ask for thermostats. radiator hoses and water pumps for Volkswagon Bugs (the old ones) or for Corvairs. Or any part for a 1983 Corvette. Or left handed cresent wrenchs or metric screwdrivers.
Ford called it a 5.0 because they already had a 4.9 L straight 6 cylinder engine. No confusion.
