Rear spring removal

I tried putting jack stands under the frame, disconnecting the shocks and dropping the rear end with the jack but the rear end wouldn't drop low enough. Would it help to jack up one side once it is dropped down?

Did you undo the anti-sway bar and quad shock also?

If they are stock height springs, they can take some persuasion to come out.

Watch the brake lines as you manipulate the rear end.

Good luck.

Yah, sway bar and quad shocks removed. I forgot about the brake lines. I'll check tomorrow. That could of been what was holding the rear from dropping farther. I thought that the driveshaft might of had something to do with it. I've also heard of putting a jack underneath the lower control arm, removing the bolt and slowly lowering the jack, but that seems too dangerous to me.

sounds to me like your axle wont drop because its hanging on to the brake line above the axle assembly. This is not good. You might ewant to check and make sure you did not damge that. But yeah, disconnect the line and it should drop all the way.

You don't need to take the control arms out at all. Do this: Take the wheel off the side you want to do and take the bottom shock bolt out. Don't take the other wheel off you will need it to pivot the rear down. With the car jacked up put a jack stand on the frame on the side with the wheel off. Lower it slowly and the rear will pivot enough to get the spring out . Put the new one in, jack the rear up enough to put the shock bolt back on and you are done. Repeat steps for other side.

Also, how much is the stock spring stuck in there? NOT THAT I RECOMMEND IT but like on my vert (freakishly huge rear springs), I had to tear the springs out of there (a couple kicks would do it). But it's something you gotta feel out - you don't want to try and kick a loaded spring (because of the way the spring leans on the LCA, it could squirt out).

For whatever its worth, I only jack one side of the car at a time (so one side of the axle is really compressed and the other isnt). Then I used a jack under the axle and lowered the axle as I watched the brake lines. Once I started feeling hinky about my brake lines not having enough slack, that's where the jack stopped. Put a jack-stand under the axle and swap springs.

Good luck.

I supported the axle and chassis on 4 jackstands. then I put a floor jack under the control arm and put enough pressure on the control arm so I could just get the bolt out that connects the axle to the arm. Once the bolt is out, just relieve the pressure in the jack and it comes out easily and safely. Do one side at a time, it'll keep the axle from moving around when you're putting the new springs in
