my friend has a 95 3.8 manual. he had taken it to discount tire to get new wheels and tires and the tech said that his wheel would move in and out when it was tightened up. does any one know if that would be an axle problem or why it would do that.
Depends on just how much it moved in and out.Axle shafts have a very small amount of play.If it moves a lot then the axle shaft bearings are worn.Another indicator of worn axle bearings can be occasional or constant high pitched squeaking noises ( can be caused by over heated rotors and cooking the bearing grease or you live in a very wet area),and also hearing coarse grinding or rubbing ..just loud rear end noise while driving. The rough noise can come from the ring gear if the axle bearing slides out of place too much.
I had also thought of ring gear wear but I don't think that can cause end play.
If a C clip broke,I would think the entire axle would slide right out, with the caliper being the only thing holding it in place...not good. The rear end would jump around and there would probably be some grinding noise.
he said theres a light i guess hummimg noise is how he explained it but i've never seen his wheels move in and out while he's driving...thanks for the info to
