I would still like to see an independant flow test of these Thumper heads to see if they flow as advertised, but nobody seems to have the nerve to do it.
They might be surprised if they did.
Has nothing to do with nerve. I bought thumpers heads because I wanted a nice boost compared to stock and I got it.I was very happy with it.
I later built a forged 306 with afr 165 heads tfs cam and cobra intake with tmoss ported lower and it was fast! but it made most of its power in the mid to upper rpm range.Thats great for the track, but for a daily driven street car My thumper tmoss combo was more fun. It had alot more balls down low compared to the 306.
When I build a street car I want the power down low where you would normally drive it so when you mash the pedal it responds instantly by mashing you into your seat..
Heres my thoughts:
people need to realize you cant just bolt on a set of afr heads or any other parts for that matter and make great hp gains.
When building a engine you must match the parts properly so that they compliment one another.
Because of that fact it is not always feasible or cost effective to say you should of bought afr heads for a little more.
Yeah the heads are a little more then you need the cam and rockers and intake and injs and everything else needed to compliment the heads and make it all work together. All the little mores soon add up to several thousands.
Or you could buy the thumpers and some gaskets put it together use all the same parts you had already it will still compliment the heads and will run great. Just my thoughts.
fact is my vert ran 15.50's before the tmoss thumper combo.
with the tmoss thumper combo it ran 13.90 @ 100 on street tires with a 1.98 60 ft ...this was in a full weight vert. It wieghed around 3800# with me in it and full tank.
Take that same motor and put it in a light coupe with slicks and it would be deep into the 12's. For a little over $1000.00 in parts gaskets etc.
