Actually I've heard it's detrimental b/c it "straighten's" out the airflow in the meter to make it more accurate

You ever get the control arm situation squared away?

I'd leave it in, it might mess up the calibration of the meter. I doubt you would pick up more than 1-2 HP anyways.

Good Luck, Don

yeah, but i haven't really driven it yet because i basically ripped right into working on the rear. somehow i must have switched the axles and now my passenger side tire rubs the inner fender again. damn axles must not be the same length, go figure. i'm going to mess with the control arms again anyway. i ordered all new bolts, so i'm going to replace them, install my upper poly bushings and readjust the pinion angle. but yes, i had it situated.

sounds like i'll gain nothing by removing the screen, maybe actually hurt me huh?

Yeah I'd leave the screen alone if it were myself.

Strange... I always thought in mustangs they were the same length Glad you got it ironed out now you just gotta swap the axles back

I took mine out

I took mine out when I put in my cold air kit, mainly because the new gasket would not fit over it, but also because supposedly you can pick up a horse or two by removing it. It hasn't had any negative effects for me. I'd say do it. If it does mess something up, buy a better MAF!

I removed mine and ran it for a few months and there were no noticable differences with it in or out.

What about all of the aftermarket MAF's that don't come with a screen? Will airflow be affected if they don't come with one.

no, i'm not tearing the rear open again. i'll leave the axles be, they're not that different, very minimal amount, but it was enough to make the passenger side tire rub again. you have to realize, i don't have much room to spare to begin with.

I'll meet you at the track and you can borrow my meter, calibrated for 24# though, probably wont work? I wanna see yah in the 12's because I know if you can run a 12.9 when I swap in my tremec I'll be running 12.0's

The maf is set up completely different, mine monitors the air flowoing through only a portion of the meter, then makes it's adjutments from there.

thanks, but no it won't work. i didn't say i was going to run a 12.9 the next time i went to the track, but hopefully soon. i'm hoping my times drop significantly next friday though. i'm also thinking of getting a dyno tune done soon. one can only benefit from that. would also like to get a mass air meter and throttle body.

Isn't that how all MAF's work?

My personal opinion of the infamous MAF screen is about the same as a screen door. It lets the good air in without the flies and bugs getting in... IMO.

I took mine out and didnt feel a difference at all. The thought about the dirt and debris doesnt really make sense because that screen is after the air filter so nothing will get in there. I dont understand what its there for...none of the aftermarket MAF's come with em. Who knows thats ford for ya!
