I have been avoiding putting a rollbar in my car for a few months now...but the tech and the rest of the crew at the 2 local tarcks i go to cant be fooled anymore...they just simply wont let me in anymore...i have an 89 vert....it runs 12.47@ 114mph and i got away with it b4 for a few times and even got away with not having a battery kill in my tailight...well i put the battery switch and hid it behind the license plate so when i go to race i just take my plate off and when i hit the streets u cant tell....anywayz i am finally gonna iinstall the rollbar...does anyone know a company that makes one for my car that will bolt in??? so i can use it only at the track...i should have my 125 shot of nx installed by next week and i dont wanna wait too much longer to see my times!!

really?!?! i wanted the bolt in cause i didnt want it on when i drove around....do they check and see if its bolted or welded??? they didnt specify if it had to be welded

im not talkin about bolt in rollbar as in the whole structure...just at the points where its goin to sit (4 point)....i found one at brothersperformance.com.... it says weld or bolt in....i would figure its nhra legal.....i just hate the look of the bar on a vert...i cant imagine it there all the time....

http://swracecars.com makes a weld in roll bar pre-bent for fox convertibles (your top will clear it) for $169.95. Just make sure to specify that it's a convertible. It's an 8-point bar & is legal just have a shop fit it & weld it in. You need at least 6-point in a convertible that runs faster 13.99 & a full cage if you run faster than 11.99. You'll want to get the swing out door kit too. Climbing over the door bars is easy with the top down but it's a pita with the top up:D .

I like the look of the roll bar in the convertible.

nice car thanks for the advise.....i never liked the look the bars seem too skinny compared to the rest of the car...looks good cause u painted it....do u have pics with the dors opened?

I don't have any pic's with the doors open but I can get some next week if you want. The nice thing with the swing out door kits (which are NHRA legal) is that you can unbolt & take the door bars out. Which is nice if the car is a daily driver.

and it has to be weld in right?? cant have a bolt in huh??? my car already has run 12.47...and i will be faster then 11.99 with a 100 shot for sure...so what do u mean by full cage?
did the seats bolt right in?? and did you dye them white or are those covers??

Yes, it has to be welded in....& yes, faster than 11.99 in a vert requires a full 10 point cage

. I know I've seen convertibles with 10-point cages in them but I could't find any pictures on the web. I'm sure someone on stagnet has a cage in their vert....Oh, the seats are from an 86GT & yes they bolt right in. They are white seat covers but eventually I want to have them recovered in white leather.

whoa!!! i would never put that cage in my vert imagine driving around in that with the top down...look like your riding c sandrail or something...not many will try to race you on the street either....i did tons of work on my vert and i chose a vert caus eit was heavy and they are usually the underdogs but if i have all thiis safety stuff harness cage tailight switch...i mean its not a sleeper anymore...this sux..bigtime....my switch isnt in the tailight though behind the license plate....

if u wanna play u gotta pay!!! haha theres no way a track would let you race with a bolted in 4 point cage if ur running in the 11's...just wont happen. I guess there comes a point where you need to decide what the car is for...racing or driving. just my 2 cents....i've also been looking into the cage option lately too, not for legal reasons but for stiffening and safety. anything more than a 4 point does seem rediculous on a daily driver. good luck man

those bars from http://swracecars.com - how much is that shipping
EDIT: $67 to ny for the 8pt

hamon - is your bar from SWracecars as well?

BTW does the 8 pt prevent people from sitting in the back seat?

i like the fact that the door bars can be removed so its easier to get in but what about the backseat

the backseat is rendered useless with a roll bar that is NHRA legal. If you crash into something with people in the back seat, they aren't going to make it out alive.

I'm having a custom 6-point done once it warms up. I was talking to the owner of the shop and he said that swing-outs are more trouble than they're worth. They scratch the hell out of the door panels and he said he's seen countless amounts of cars whose bars went through the door windows because of wind blowing the door shut or something when the bars are swung out. They also weaken the integrity of the cage a lot too. So, I'll be getting welded in bars.

That's not NHRA legal to have the main hoop crossbar bolt in.

here's an example of swing out bars. You can pull the pin out and the door bar will pivot outwards
