romac balancer install....how to...

I baked my Romac as was suggested by others...for this particular part...heat works. If you try it otherwise, it'll go on and bind.....I doesn't take alot either...I placed mine in the oven...set the preheat for 200 deg...when the preheat buzzer rang. I grabbed it . with mitts... walked out and it slide on like nothing...you can find the keyway and it bottoms out right to the back...blam...throw the bolt on...

I use RTV on the keyway as does the factory...Its not that bad a job...

Have air??? Thats a big help...that crankbolt gets TQ'd to some crazy number, like 190 -200 or something...i forget..

The crank bolt only goes to 110-130ft.lbs.

from what was said, does not sound like it. Rio, im curious, did you use never seize on the snout? how would one get it off if it galled on there?

i had mentioned the installer tool - but with heating it does not sound necessary. i was afraid to bake my balancer. w/o baking you do need the install tool, IMHO.

How hard is it to take the fan off? I need to replace my balancer but I need to make sure I can actually do it myself. I am a little hesitant to bake mine so do I just need the puller and the installer?

Jake...Good deal...I thought it was that one, guess not...I know theres one bolt that gets that mother TQing....

The puller/installer is one unit, you just reverse some stuff to do both things...You WILL need it to pull it off...thats a given...On a stock one, you would use the installer side of it...With heat, it just slides all the way to the back...no need for anything else....

Actually I cant remember if I did....your right tho, it should be used....can never have enuf anti-seize on stuff...Thats my favorite automotive goop...

Removing the fan is easy it's only two 5/16 bolts holding it in place. Take those out and it slide up and out.

with my mech fan, i left it in there. i did have to turn the props to get wrenches in. so i dont have fan info for ya.

for a lot of non-romac balancers (those are like always baked. LOL), guys just slide them on. i would go to CSK if you have one near ya - they will 'loan' you a nice tool - remover and installer in one. some stores try to give you a removal tool only.

Thanks. I will go and rent a puller/installer. I am looking at the one from StrokerMotors so hopefully it will slip right on.
