One more thing that was pointed out to me by a member on another forum (Thanks Craig K.).

The Corvette Z06, the Dodge Viper, and all Mercedes AMG's come with Mobil 1 as factory fill.

I wonder if they buy it in bulk from Wal-Mart?

best oil

You know what is better than purple, red, green, synthetic, moble 1, snake or any other oil.
Thats right, ..... clean oil!!!
Oil that is changed every 3000 miles.
"Consumer Reports" stated that is was most improtant to change your oil "more often than using expensive oils" in your car. By leaving synthetics in your car longer between oil changes you would actually cause more damage to your engine due to contaminates remaining in your dirty oil. Also the oil filter needs to be changed just as often. Dont leave dirty synthetic oil in your engine.

hummm....I pay $18 at wal-mart every 3000 miles for some kind of oil, but mostly I use clean oil

Dont ya just love wal-mart

So I can use Crisco or Wesson as long as I change it every 3000?

You know what's even BETTER than THAT!? Using Amsoil or Mobil 1 and changing it and the filter every 2000 miles!!!

Dont Be fooled about Royal Purple..its crap. Take a look at your oil pan after you ran that stuff for awhile. You'll wish you never put it in. You'll end up just pumping sludge through your engine. Goodby compression hello scratched cylinder walls.

AND Porsche!

I've been using Mobile 1 since the first oil change and haven't looked back. this was back when the car had about 30K miles. after the oil change, I noticed immediately that the engine idled and revved much smoother. I haven't got any experience with these other oil brands but if It's more expensive than mobile 1, then I would probably pass.

I agree, and if you look around you can get Amsoil for a good price. I paid $58 for my last case of 10w-30.

Well thanks! That's a nice visual you linked to and it pretty much verifies what I had already posted.

Amsoil is the best. Your graph compares Amsoil 0W30 against Mobil 0W30 & 5W30. The Mobil 1 5W30 rated #2. Who runs 0W30 anyway?

So where is the test for Royal Purple?

U.M.

Test 7: Four Ball Wear
This one is a good indicator of the wear protection of a lubricant, although in the real-world it is should be factored in with the TBN of the oil. Three metal balls are clamped together, and a rotating 4th one is pressed against them in sliding contact. A scar is produced, since at some point the film strength (resistance to being squeezed out) of the oil will be exceeded. The scar is then measured, and the smaller the average wear scar, the better. This test is affected by both the base stock of the oil, and its additive package.

Results for this test (all units in inches):
Amsoil: 0.40
Castrol Syntec: 0.45
Vavoline SynPower: 0.55
Quaker State Synthetic: 0.55
Mobil Drive Clean: 0.55
Pennzoil Synthetic: 0.60
Mobil1: 0.60
Valvoline: 0.60
Castrol GTX Drive Hard: 0.60
Quaker State Peak Performance: 0.60
Pennzoil Purebase: 0.65

Thanks for playing!

Got that from Amsoil. It shows how much better amsoil 0W30 is over the Mobil 1 and if you are going to run mobile 1 than you should run the 5W30 even then the Amsoil is two times better. Personal opinion Royal Purple wasnt on there because its just as good as Amsoil IF NOT BETTER But I will be buying the Amsoil for my next oil change just did not have time to wait for shipping on it and can get Royal at my local speed shop.

If you don't recognize the individual in my avatar (Psssst... My screen name and avatar are related!), I can't help you. I'm twice your age and deep into my 2nd career now. I was actually ALIVE when the first Mustang rolled off the assembly line. That just proves how truly young you are. Your ignorance and immaturity shine through in your most recent post. Twice now you've stooped to personal attacks and you have yet to produce any proof for your Royal Purple argument which is what this whole thread was initially about, right?

You + Your Silly Post + Your Post Count + Your Age = NOOBIE

Just because you've owned a Mustang or two doesn't make you an oil expert.

U.M.

P.S. Why is Royal Purple oil.....Purple?

Ok Uncle Meat. Lets start off by saying that I don't have any data sheets about royal purple and this post was to see what people thought about it. And you say I stooped to personal attacks??? UHM you struck first by being a little smart ass saying the guy over on svtperformance is a triboligist. Do you know what that is? If not go look it up! So 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' you. Next you say im a newbie. HAHA. Ok my silly post? Where's that one? This post has been looked at over 500 times w/ 30+ replies. So yeah its pretty stupid. My post count, uh yea its my fault that in December my screename/password got messed up and i couldnt get on so i had to change it. SO you can say whatever u want about that. And ive owned a mustang or two doesnt make me an oil expert. No OBVIOUSLY not since i asked peoples opinions about it ya moron. And ive owned three a 88GT, 96 cobra and now 98 cobra (see sig, soon to be updeated) Then my age makes me a newbie. Ok ive been reading MM&FF since I was 14 and have owned mustangs since 15 I wasnt even old enough to drive yet I was modifiying my exhaust, gears, stereo, wing, etc on a 88GT back when I was 15 but i dont know 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' im a newbie guys. yea ok get real. You were alive when the first mustang rolled off the assembly line so whats that make you? Better than me or something? There are guys my age that own their own shops so i dont consider them newbies. SO get smart and roll your eyes all you want but im not new to this game at all i got a few years under my belt there pops and i smoke vettes, vipers, etc at the track all day long and they come up and wanna know what I'VE (AKA the NEWBIE) have done to my car. I think thats enuff said. Peace pops
