all the stangs ive seen 9 out of 10 got rust frame rails and shock towers..its a common thing...ford stupid design with all the holes in it where the sand and water collect and sit ...i got to fix mine this winter after me and my buddy yank the motor to drop the new one in

Take pics. Sometimes a little rust won't hurt anything. The only fix for that is to insert a boxed peice of steel where the K-frame bolts up to the frame rail/strut tower area. A fab shop by me makes those up all the time and throws them in on rotted cars, or even modified cars to add srength. He uses 1/4" steel in there and reinforces it for strength.

Ryan, if the car isn't gonna pull the wheels and run 10's I wouldn't worry about the frame getting tweaked or the K-frame getting ripped out. An Explorer motor with a GT40 upper half won't hurt the car.

no but adding 10lbs of boost at it and some hard lauches at the strip after a 5 speed is in it will rip it to shreads. this car flex's enough as it is.
the side of the rail is tusted through somewhat. looks like a huge ass tear. then the bottom of the rail is complete rotted out around where the k member bolts to it. ill get pictures after work

ive seen alo worse but its frustrating for a true 48k car. passenger side is preferct. thats what happens when its sit under a car port for 19ish years of it life till i bought it.

Unfortunatly Ryan its gonna take some work but its fixable. I am sure its not gonna make you shy away from it. You are damn good at fixing these cars up and now you have a new skill to learn. I am sure you will learn it, fix it and make it look like new again like you did with the rest of that car. You got this mang!

becasue the moron covered it all with black RTV or some **** like that then sprayed rubber under coating over it. after i srpayed it with air craft stripper and let it soak for 20 mins then wiped away i found that.

well ryan rust usually comes from lots of burnouts so your car is gonna be crap !!!


Just cut the area out and weld in a new piece, it doesnt have to look perfect down there just work.

The older you get the more picky you get, its all experiance. Now the next time you buy a fox I bet you'll be looking for that

time for a tubular k-member...i got to fix the samething on mine this winter....all the stangs in my area 8 out of 10 have the rust issue on the shocktower and frame rails...its a common thing for these cars

pisses me off because there no way its going to see the road this year now. absolutely no way in hell. i still have to get the heads machines and all new valve train. still have all the **** left to buy for the top end so an easy 600 worth of ****. and now add on having to drop the k member cutting the thing up and all this crap. oh and another aliment now because im sure threes no way im going to get it back into the same spot.

i havent touched the pos all week. nor do i plan to anytime soon!

Cut it out and weld it up. Nobig deal, if it takes you til spring of next year to just fix that rust you got issues. But, like most of us, your gonna say, "well, i guess since I'm into this I might as well do this." and the list goes on and on and two years later your half done.

yeah dude, thats exactly how my cars suspension got out of hand

Its OK Ryan, I know you and know you will get it handled. If you check out TurboFox thread on his T-top you can see he had the same problem only 20x worse. Hit him up and I bet he will give some pointers on how to do it and keep it in the right spot.
